Whens the last time you ever changes anyone's ideas politically?

Can it even be done?

I don't intend to try ,
I have seen my generally kind hearted ,laid back friend just go nuts since Donald became President ,,"Yes he's an ass hole but he is my ass hole ,we put him in office " ,,
like he and his brother and their twitter accounts literally made the difference ,
He was in my face ,veins popping when I mentioned that I wish the electoral college was removed and every single vote was actually counted ,that is the only true way to know what the voice of the people is ,and work harder to secure them and prevent ballot tampering .and I could not even understand his argument ,but it was all "The Democrats" fault what ever it was ,and I could hardly hear him for his brother screaming about something on the news ,
And then they watch Saturday night live so they can bitch about it ,
I wish I had stayed home instead of going for a visit .
But I whole heartedly believe ,someone has a clear agenda to divide America ,
and we are all distracted and missing the bigger picture .
Something is coming ,that will shake the very fiber of the world ,
I do believe one day the Pope will rule the world ,and enforce his will on the world ,that he is going to appear like the only sane one left . LOL
And no one seen it coming ,we were all distracted , fighting amongst ourselves ,
A wise man once said homosexuality would be the norm as in the days of old ,
There would be wars and rumors of wars and weather and signs like never since man has been on this planet ,
Parents against kids and Kids against parents ,people turning colder and colder
and the enemy you fear ,would be in your own home ...
Id say not only was he accurate ,we are very close to a break down like this world has never seen ,
Well they won't see it until its to late ,
the 120 men it took to turn it around ,were to busy playing politics
and I can't do a damn thing about it
We have reverted to kindergärtners ,if a bad name won't do it
maybe a punch in the mouth will ,,,,,,where did you say you got that popcorn ?

You can't change someone's entire political ideology in one internet conversation but if you are polite and make your case well, then you can shift someone slightly on a particular issue.

This doesn't apply to all people because a large minority of people are not open to engage with ideas and just want to rant.

Not optomistic, if they are politically engrained to certain beliefs it's a tough nut to crack irrespective of rational evidence. Think they have to discover it them selves.

I don't know. But my own political views have changed dramatically over time, so I assume others' can as well. I wouldn't expect to change anyone's views over a single argument, but maybe influence over their political views can accumulate over time.

That being said, debating politics on SW seems like a waste of time.

I change people views all the time. But its a long term project. I mainly tell people, if you're in circle jerk you have no idea of reality.

Last month.

Regarding the immigration crisis at the border.

It can be done, if they haven't drank the Kool-Aide yet.
It can be. But not by constantly hounding and arguing about it.

People have to change their own minds. You can, however, open the eyes of the open-minded. Today's professional politicos (and the sheep who blindly follow) are so narrow minded, that they've lost touch with the peoples' vastness of perspective. Theirs is a closed reality.

If you are open enough it can happen, yes. Not instantaneously though. Usually people can only enlighten you and you, yourself, start confronting your beliefs against new evidence untill they change. That's how it happens to me at least

I don't really try around here, but in person I'm much more persuasive. People are more receptive if they like you, and if you make something seem like it was kind of their idea all along.

It's rare, but it's been known to have been done.

I mean, look at Trump.
"I'm a Democrat."
"Wait...I'm a Republican."
"Wait...I want to be king of the world."
I think it would be easier to change someone's religious affiliation. Some people think of politics just as strongly/passionately.

Oh yes I've done it.
