@Sophiewargamer Also, this is in the U.S. If you are elsewhere, the minimum wage is different. If you are anywhere in Western or Northern Europe, minimum wage workers aren't as poor.

@Sophiewargamer £7.83 is your minimum wage for people age 25 and over. That is equivalent to around $10.50 or so in US dollars. So minimum wage workers in the UK are somewhat better off than in the U.S. The U.S. government is massively right wing.

@nedkelly Martin Luther King called for a $2 minimum wage which, when converted to today's money, is $15.27. So the fight for 15 is much older than we realize.
