How about Governor Kate Brown becoming a President candidate?

beckyromero · 36-40, F
Let's see. Didn't know much about her. But what I've found out in the past half hour, I don't like.

She signed off on a letter to the FCC that was basically pre-written by Comcast in support of their purchase of Time Warner.

Comcast also gave her some big bucks when she was running for statewide office.

...

In the legislature she lobbied for big cuts to the public employee unions' retirements funds, getting a number of Democrats to support the bill. Then she voted against it in the end kissing up to big labor while her colleagues took the political hit.

"She totally undercut people," says former Sen. Charlie Ringo (D-Beaverton).

...

Then as Secretary of State:
Brown's new job is more bureaucratic and less political than lawmaking—the kind of position in which you generally get noticed only when things go wrong.

Things did go wrong in 2012, when Brown's office botched the scheduling of the state labor commissioner's race. Both Avakian, the incumbent, and his opponent, then-Sen. Bruce Starr (R-Hillsboro), had been told by Brown's office they would face off in May.

That would have given Starr a better chance to win—Avakian had just been battered in an unsuccessful race for Congress, and the small primary turnout would have favored the more conservative Starr.

But at the last minute, Brown claimed she had made a scheduling mistake and pushed the race to November—a move that helped Avakian, the eventual winner.
The state's child welfare system seems to be in chaos. Where's the leadership from the governor?
Leaders of Oregon's child welfare system have continually failed to fix systemic problems after paying $39 million in legal settlements, according to a new audit by the Oregon Secretary of State's Office.

At the same time, child welfare employees have worked in a culture of bullying and intimidation, facing verbal abuse from Department of Human Services leaders, state auditors said in the report released Wednesday.

Some DHS staff members also were told not to talk with Secretary of State officials for the audit, according to the audit report.

"This sounds like a really poisonous atmosphere to work in," said Jim Moore, director of the Tom McCall Center for Policy Innovation at Pacific University in Forest Grove.
With all the news about foreign influence in Trump's campaign, Brown has her own foreign-influence scandal going on.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown Rakes in Big Donation From a Canadian-Backed Cannabis Giant Opening Weed Franchises

Her hefty fundraising advantage over Republican Knute Buehler continues to grow. Even big weed is chipping in.
She reported a contribution of $20,000 from Golden Leaf Holdings, a Canadian-backed, Portland-based cannabis retail company that hopes to franchise weed stores across the country under the Chalice Farms brand.

That appears to be the largest single contribution to date from a cannabis business to an Oregon politician.
It's against federal law to receive campaign contributions from foreign nationals or business. Wonder how this is being explained away?
Since 2016, Brown has designated 52 “Office of Governor” employees as “lobbyists" working on the “governor’s agenda.” However, Brown’s official “Lobbyist Expenditure Report” displayed on the Oregon Ethics Commission website showed zero dollars spent on lobbying for the past seven quarters
A quick judgement is that Brown is playing fast and loose with the rules, ethics is a mere after-thought, she's power-hungry and doesn't care who she back-stabs if it helps her climb up the ladder.

Darn. There goes one potential female democratic possibility. Who else? @beckyromero

@jackjjackson

As I've said, Joe Biden's my first choice.

But if he doesn't run, I'd put Kirsten Gillibrand up there.

I’d reverse those two based on ageism 😉 @beckyromero
Northwest · M
She's does not have a national presence, and she's probably going to be a one term governor.
