What are your thoughts regarding the primary defeat of the fourth ranking congressman to a Sanders supporter

My though is that the democrats are in such disarray that the midterms will swing the republicans way and that should Mrs Pelosi retain her seat the Dems keeping Mrs Pelosi and Cryng Chuck on as leaders will result in 2020 republican victory across the board.

Only 26,000 people voted and didn't he send someone to take his place in a scheduled debate? If I were her, I wouldn't be buying that mercedes just yet.
katielass · F
@jackjjackson Well, I'm saying it's not her platform, it's the lack of interest in the primary, the fact that he didn't even bother to show up for a scheduled debate and he did something else that showed he took his candidacy for grated. But I agree, her brand of Marxism might go over in a college class but out in the real world, people aren't quite ready for that. There are still way too many of us who can think.

The potential democratic infighting is fantastic. Let the fun begin! @katielass
katielass · F
@jackjjackson Yeah, it happens to both sides but it's always more fun when it's the other side experiencing it. lol

I believe this is a localized event. The district is extremely progressive, with a lot of different minority (as measured by the national stats) voters. It is not representative of the nation.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I agree with your demographic assessment. Wonder why the now lame duck didn’t take it seriously? @Northwest

@jackjjackson He's a 10 term guy, right? He's used to the political machine handing him money and votes. Lots of other dinosaurs like him out there. He's not going to see it.

It reminds me of my first job interview, more than 35 years ago. After the interview with the department head, I asked him a question, and his answer "I don't need to know this, I make $50K per year", which was a lot of dough for the time. This convinced me not to take the job, and that his days are numbered, not that he knew it.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There are plenty of them out there. @Northwest

Sanders lost the district to Hillary in the presidential primary. She had about 36,000 votes. He had about 26,000.

Hillary won the district in the general 78-20.

The district is about 50% Latino.

Joseph Crowley was elected only to represent the district in 2013 when district lines changed (he served in a nearby district since 1999).

The party machine put him on the ballot first go around. He had worked for a retiring Congressman.

He probably did not pay much attention to his district while working his way up the leadership ladder. It happens.

What's so surprising?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Nothing is surprising. It’s revealing of the problems plaguing the Dems. @beckyromero
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson

It's not really a problem. They're going to retain the seat.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Oh of course. That’s not the problem. The problem is that the Dems are dividing into smaller and smaller parts as the far far left got more left and the DNC becomes more and more inept. @beckyromero
It's strange you parse it that way.

I see it as a phenomenon much like the election of Trump.

People are sick of political business as usual.

She beat a Queens DNC party boss who had taken hard loads from corporate interests for two decades. She was outspent by like 20:1. Her constituents rejected business as usual and she trounced him.

In her own words:
This race is about people versus money. We've got people, they've got money. It's time we acknowledge that not all Democrats are the same.
That's sort of a mic drop.

I think it's a localized phenomenon. I've spent time in that district in a different life. I get it. I don't see anybody making this point at a national level. That not all Democrats need the DNC teat.
WoodyAq · M
Let's hope you are wrong. The last thing Congressional Republicans need right now is to have their cowardice, hypocrisy and incompetence rewarded.
WoodyAq · M
@jackjjackson Funny, I've got images of pallets of cash landing in North Korea. A vision of the future?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Interesting Iran pallets are real. @WoodyAq
WoodyAq · M
@jackjjackson Oh, I'm sure the NK ones will be real as well.

@WindOfAdolf she is sincere but very idealistic. she will get pushback as a junior congress lady.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The democratic infighting opportunities are endless. @WindOfAdolf
cycleman · 61-69, M
Republicans have the electoral process jigged in their favour.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
That was a democratic primary. No republicans involved. @cycleman
I dont even know who or what a congressman is
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Between you and me I don’t think most of them know either lol. @SStarfish
