John McCain/kelly sadler

A little over a week ago, in a meeting of the White House communications office, Kelly Sadler made the comment that it did not matter how Senator John McCain would vote on an upcoming confirmation because “He is dying anyway!”

This vicious and unprovoked attack on Senator McCain, a True American Hero, brought calls from both sides of the political spectrum - Republicans and Democrats alike - for an apology from the White House and for Sadler to be fired.

However, rather than removing Sadler from her position, President Trump has chosen to defend her and to attack the person - or persons - who made her unpatriotic statement known to the nation.

Trump has stated that Sadler will not lose her position in his administration, nor face any other consequences.

President Trump has, however, also called the person/people that leaked her Un-American comment “traitors and cowards”, and has promised to find out who the source of the leak was, and to prosecute them to the fullest extent possible.

How is it possible that the person who made this unjustifiable attack on a GREAT American - in both war and peace - is defended; while the person who reports the totally noxious and unpatriotic remark to the American public is attacked as a traitor?

In any normal administration, the exact opposite would be the case. Someone who attacks our nation or its heroes is a traitor, not the person who reports their unpatriotic, reprehensible, and vile behavior, actions, and comments.

No wonder that Senator McCain has stated that he does not wish to have President Trump invited to his funeral. McCain is the epitome of an American, while Trump is merely out for Trump. At least, that’s the way it looks at present.

President Trump should offer an apology to Senator McCain, fire Kelly Sadler, and - if he can determine who leaked the comment - give them a commendation for good citizenship, and for helping to “drain the swamp.”. The fewer barracudas like Sadler there are in the swamp, the better for America!!!!!

There were plenty of Democrats who, like me, put aside party for person and voted for John McCain in 2008.

And even if Trump hadn't showed the country what an ass he is with all the other things he has said about people, the things he has said about McCain and POWs in general are enough alone for me to rule out any consideration of giving Trump my vote in 2020.

Trump shows an arrogance that basically says I don't give a damn; I don't want your vote.

Even more than the average politician, McCain has been calculatedly only about McCain. A career self interested and self promoting politician. History of saying whatever would get him the best press. @beckyromero

Successful politicians usually do have a way of getting successful press coverage.

It's part of what helps make them, well, successful.

What a waste of time. Whose funeral is first? McCain or Reid?
