Sanctuary cities are a joke and in violation of federal law

This crap needs to stop
WoodyAqM
Not really. States and municipalities are legally permitted to make their own decisions as to the resources they devote.

@QuixoticSoul If they are not enforcing federal law aren't they ignoring federal law? Even if cities don't have to enforce federal law doesn't give them the right to warn illegals that the feds are coming.
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@GunSmoke9 What I meant was that states cannot violate federal law, or pass laws to that effect, because they will get sued in federal court. Just as if you violate federal law, you will be arrested by the FBI and charged in federal court.

But states do not have to do FBI, NSA, etc's jobs for them either, and the exact parameters of agency cooperation are set by the state officials. Sometimes the states meddling in federal matters is even explicitly disallowed, or discouraged as part of the general preemption doctrine.

Tbh I think you'd have a devil of a time pinning obstruction of justice charges on the mayor, especially since being in the US illegally is a civil violation, not criminal - and her information came from unofficial sources. It would be fairly unprecedented.

Anyway we'll see.

@GunSmoke9 Federal cannot force states to use their resources on federal priorities --- like forcing local law enforcement to work with ICE, or forcing states to expand Medicaid, as too examples.

It will, patience my good man. It will wind it's way through the courts because the left insists on wasting taxpayer money on things that they know are unconstitutional. the 9th circuit will side with them, wrongly as usual, and like 80% of the time will be overturned. Then the left will have to get sneaky about warning their future voters.
Governors who warn illegals of impending ice raids should be horse whipped 馃憤

Several cities in California are suing the state to get out.

I live in Chicago which is considered a sanctuary city but to be honest I鈥檓 not entirely sure what a sanctuary city is. Something to do with immigrants I think?
WoodyAqM
@BlueMetalChick Practially zero, I think. Or negative... (as in frequently "accidentally" getting in the way).
BlueMetalChick26-30, F
@WoodyAq That could be problematic. Then again, immigration in this country is intentionally complicated.
WoodyAqM
@BlueMetalChick These states don't agree with the federal approach...
tindrummerM
just can't resist stepping in here and expressing my disagreement 馃槓

WoodyAqM
@LadyBronte Not really. See above.
LadyBronte56-60, F
I do not believe in the concept sanctuary cities. Period.
WoodyAqM
@LadyBronte Hmmm. They are still constitutional, though ...
Tastyfrzz61-69, M
It might come to the point where Accadia, the Northeast, Texas, and Minnesota tell the rest of the country to take a hike. We don't want to pay to support you loosers anymore.
ladycae100+, F
@Tastyfrzz unless they are planning on seceding from the union which would be rather foolish on their part. it's not their decision.
