How do we deal with the automation problem?

IMO Neo-liberalism + robots = dystopia.

I will postulate that automation cannot be stopped. It's not only robots, it's also Artificial Intelligence and self-organizing systems (it's not what most refer to as AI today).

So, the only thing we can do, is insure that the world moves to true socialism. Any other political/economic system, is bound to end up in dystopia, no matter which way you spin it.

Note that I'm not proposing forced wealth re-distribution, but rather a gradual slide into sharing.

I am an optimist, because we're on the verge of additional technological breakthroughs, that will remove the incentive for people to accumulate wealth.

This is not going to happen overnight, but essentially:

- You need a roof over your head? Think 3D printers, on steroids. In this case, independent nano machines, that can make me a house, and disassemble it, on demand. I want to host a party? No problem, my house can be bigger, and after the party, it's all torn down. Just a bunch of molecules.

- Food. Whatever I want, whenever I want it.

- Healthcare. Agents, within my blood stream, destroy disease, regulate my metabolism, and keep my arteries open.

etc.

This may sound like science fiction, but we're starting to build the foundation for all this today. Within 10 years, we will be able to have injections, capable of producing internal vaccines, against cancer.

Food for thought.

@Northwest Fully automated luxury communism.

@Burnley123 Instead of luxury, I like to think of it as having our needs met :-) Thanks for the BA.

At some point, people will realize that if the community, as a whole, is healthy, then the individuals will be as well.

Every day I am more and more pessimistic about automation. It is not even the economic consequences that worry me the most, but the psychological ones. Men is by nature a creative force. We need to transform the world around us and see the results. Since mechanization started we see those results less and feel emptier.

I think robotisation will be the last nail in the coffin. Humanity has not shot themselves on the foot, but in the stomach. Sorry if my pessimism makes you frown. Other people's optimism makes me frown too.

True but neoliberalism - robots also = dystopia, just a bit slower

With AI, it could go two ways, utopia or dystopia. Difficult to say which is more probable.
You tell me what will happen with more and more automation, where do people work, where will their income come from.
@Pitchblue Pretend there's a world where robots literally could do everything for us. Not a single job exists that needs humans. Money will no longer be a thing. People will have whatever they need. They could spend their time doing whatever they want. Finding the meaning to life, exploring the reaches of space, creating new art, researching new sciences. The world would be driven by people's desire to do, instead of their need for money.
@Qwerty14 The rich want to own the world, if money was not a thing how would they control the masses, they would either devise a plan to control them or they would kill them. Water will become the next valued commodity like oil and gold.
@Pitchblue Google; Who's buying all the water?
