Is Thereasa May finished?

Rumours mount of an impending Conservative Party leadership bid.

A few months ago, the Government were forced by the EU to concede a soft Brexit deal by extension of the Irish border question. Details here:

The hard-liners in the party won't stand for this, as I predicted at the time. There is no way of reconciling the contradictions and Brexit itself is a contradiction.

To be fair, I don't think that anyone could pull this off well. Like I said before, this would be the time to allow your opposition into power. No matter what you do, you will be screwed. From what I have read, it does sound as if her days are numbered. I don't like her, but if she is replaced with a hardliner, Britain is fucked. They seem to be incapable of understanding reality. The only redeeming part might be that people will be driven into the arms of the Labour party. Of course, after Brexit that might not matter...

Dude, no one cares about you and your British bs. We speak American here. What is a Brexit anyway? Can I buy one?

I have already made plans for what I will do in that situation. Unfortunately I think it is time for everyone to make plans.

@rhouse Sigh. What is wrong with people here? I never realized there was this much ignorance and hate.
rhouse · 56-60, M
It always existed but has become mainstream in the last 12-15 months. We all need to make plans for resistance because acceptance is out of the question.

Serious question since I don't know that much about Brexit. Why does it have to be negotiated. Why can't the U.K just say, as of January 1 2019 we are gone.

Thank you. Are you in the financial sector by any chance? They are really going to take it in the shorts. @Burnley123

@eli1601 They would be cutting off their nose and cutting off our face.

In a game of chicken between a Mini and a double decker bus, a crash would damage both vehicles though its still likely to be the mini which blinks first.

I can't imagine anybody in her position doing well, but I also can't imagine anybody in her position doing worse than May has done. What a spectacular catastrophe.

And since it's your country rather than mine, I can really sit back here and enjoy the schadenfreude as her tenure as PM comes to an ignoble end. I doubt better days are ahead though.

Brexit will happen but it will be so soft that nobody will notice. @RodneyTrotter
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@rhouse... Unless Jacob Reese Mogg becomes PM. it's not likely but is possible
rhouse · 56-60, M
Unfortunately we will see. It will be interested. Of course the American President is the wild card in all of this. How will he act when it comes to trade agreements? Will he kill trade agreements with the EU? What a world we live in.

She's weak on Brexit, weak on border, weak on immigration, does not like the military, sad.

As an afterthought, and I know that I should be asking our US voters the same thing, did anyone who voted for Brexit, think the thing through? How about those who planned it?
rhouse · 56-60, M
What exactly is your question for US voters? I would love to answer.@Northwest
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Northwest Nobody planned it.

The leave campaign never had a plan, just a sheet of unobtainable promises. The Cameron Government (which led the remain campaign) had no contingency plan because they 'knew' they were going to win.

Like Trump, the support for Brexit is a triumph of emotional connection over reason.
rhouse · 56-60, M
Most logical explanation I have ever seen.
rhouse · 56-60, M
May will last through Brexit because history books will forever mention the PM that during Brexit. Nobody else wants to have their name on that page. I think May is regretting it too.
rhouse · 56-60, M
I agree but I am not sure anyone else is willing to be the PM in the history books during Brexit. @Burnley123
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@rhouse It depends.

Boris doesn't care because he just wants power. Tally-ho, f**k the country.

Jacob Reece-Mogg actually does believe that Brexit will turn Britain into a magical Ayn Rand island but with additional pixies and unicorns.

These are the two front-runners.
rhouse · 56-60, M
Agreed but I don't think they are willing to put their name on the blame line when Brexit fails. It was a bad vote and the people have turned against it. It is a no win situation.
