Does anybody in the U.K know if the government ever did or are planning on challenging the energy price hikes planned for this new year ?

My mother received her 'Estimated years usage bill for 2018' today and is livid !
EDF energy are proposing/telling her that next year her 'Price plan' is going up by almost £1000 !

Did some research online and found that EDF were under 'investigation' by the energy watchdog 'OFGEM' as there is no logical reason why the hike should be anywhere near that amount.
But the last report was from September and i assume they were awaiting EDF's response before deciding on whether to legislate.

Anyone ?

@Picklebobble2 GRRRR honestly it boils my blood. Thats what life is. The system of debt and misery. Go work then give it all to councils energy companies etc etc etc. Fucking leaches. Then chan 5 will put benefit streets on to deflect everyone 😅😅 The true thieving bastards are at the top of the tree. Can or is there a way of installing a wood burning stove into her home. Atleast to save some money bless her.

They might up their prices by a grand, but I'M not earning that EXTRA grand in order to JUST be able to pay them !

@Picklebobble2 Exactly the reason people need to look into alternate energy. Free energy exists but the leaches want to keep u trapped in that web and people will pay whatever they want as theres so little choice as far as they know. I wish u and ur mother well.

Theory goes that most people grumble but eventually pay it !

Two years ago we went through the same thing and after several weeks of letters back and forth EDF suddenly came out with a 'LOW USER TARIFF'.
Basically cutting her bill by 2/3 !

@waleskinder Some do ! Same as some pay quarterly some pay monthly some don't even bother these days and have a pay-as-you-go meter.
