As if America has not stirred the pot enough in that part of the World.

Why do you call yourself a Zionist?
I don't see the point of calling it an Israeli capital while it's inhabited by both nationalities.
Maybe if the two merge in the future.

It's just bad optics. There's no real reason to do it, Tel Aviv is already there. Having the faintest regard for a peace process, if it's even possible, would just say to leave it. I don't care what actually becomes of the city, but if people are going to die over it, might as well let it be.

Trump is doing it because he thinks it will play well on Twitter and is not concerned with the right or wrong of the thing. It stirs up his base and that is all he cares about.

@Subsumedpat Ah, indeed. I just read up on it a little. Apparently the embassy move wouldn't be made for several years. No kidding! He is putting a massive target on their backs after all.

@Subsumedpat What am I getting for Christmas miss cleo?
Subsumedpat 路 36-40, M
@Xuan12 I mentioned it somewhere already but why do we need to move, is there anything wrong with our embassy in Tel Aviv, how much is it going to cost to move and who is going to pay for it and what are we going to get out of it other than to make a point and piss some people off and likely get some embassy employees killed who would not have been killed.

If I was in Israel right now, I wouldn't just be worrying that this might cause flare-ups of violence from Palestinians, I'd also be worrying about why Trump is doing this. What favour is he going to be asking for in return?馃槹

I see your point but our presidents have been promising to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel since clintoon, when he wasn't busy cozying up to arafatass. Allowing terrorists to dictate our policy is a show of weakness. This official recognition lets them know they don't dictate our policy. Holding off on it has done what for the peace process? That's right, nothing.

Jerusalem is a holy city for Christians, Muslims and Jews. Making it the capital city of Jewish or Muslim state is an outrage towards the other two Abrahamic religions. As a Christian I feel disgusted by his decisions, the same way I feel disgusted by Palestians claims to have East Jerusalem as their capital city

Interesting, I don't understand it enough to intelligently comment. But just reading then it appears there was a 1995 Jerusalem embassy law which recognised Israel's right to choose its own capital and successive Presidents have signed a waiver on security grounds
