I ask because Zimbabwe is about to get a new president, and while he's not got a very good human rights record, there's a hopeful chance that Zimbabwe will finally have democracy (although, I'm not hugely hopeful that Mnangagwa is a democrat) and human rights would likely come later.

Oh, and when I say "human rights" I don't mean things on the cutting edge in the West, like gay marriage. Assume I mean the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

@GreensCornbreadYams that was because it started before the Victorian era

None. Democracy the way we know it (representative democracy) is not democracy, it is a farce. And the Universal Declaration of human rights is only universal in its name, they are western rights forcibly imposed to the rest of the world.
@Cierzo you know, I think you're right. Somehow I got the idea that sexual preference was not recognized in the Universe Declaration of Human Rights 🤔 Although gay marriage probably isn't, the UDHR does sound like western arrogance. Using that was a bad example

you mean human rights like ameritardia where healthcare and education are not free and universal unlike in developed and civilized countries?

You can't really have one without the other.
@hippyjoe1955 you can't sustain one without the other, but they don't always come together

@GreensCornbreadYams Not really. The reason that human rights and democracy go together is the fact that human rights are innate with the individual and not granted by any lesser power than God. In a monarchy your 'rights' can be taken away the same way you received them - with the stroke of a pen.

Politics are the opposite end of the spectrum to human rights.
