Question for you america: Is there anyone who is ok with way black people are profiled and murdered by police in this country?

UpYourArsenal · 22-25, M
Why single out the police?
Blacks are killing fellow blacks everyday but no one seems to want to talk about that.

I don't care because blacks are statistically more likely to be killed by other blacks, the police are the least of their worries.

The Trump loyalists, and those who think that Blacks should just shut up and get on with the program, will jump in and give you their narrative: more blacks die at the hands of blacks, as if that's the answer to the question you're asking.

The fact is, we have a major problem in the US, with police forces, mistrusting the black population, so they tend to assume the worst, even those who do not consider themselves "racist" and tend to shoot first and ask questions later.

I'm not sure that they solution is, but the current political environment is not going to produce positive results. To them, the only way to go, is submit, but they don't see the inherent racism in that position.

"But black people kill black people too and nobody talks about..."

Well they do talk about it and I knew that argument would come up as soon as I read the title.

Ironically SW Conservatives are drawing moral equivilance between the police which they admire and gangsters which they despise. Should public defenders of the law not be held to a higher standard than drug dealer muscle?

Also there is racial determinism in that premise. Black people are not victims or citizens killed by criminals, but 'black'. This is to say nothing of the economic and social factors which breed the conditions in which violent crime thrives.

If you want to reduce crime, then better community relations are the way forward. Police murders are a huge problem because (quite understandably) there is a lack of trust in the police.
Despite what the alt-right's say, I'm white AF. I used to have long hair down my back, a big beard. I dressed grunge. Flannel, some t-shirt, jeans. I was poor AF too. So I looked like shit.

I got profiled all the fucking time. Long hair walking across a college campus at 4AM-- must be holding, frisk him down. Same next night. Next night.

I got profiled driving through rural Florida and Georgia. Pull the long hair over. Search his car. Same on the way back, or same on the same highway after we passed through and stopped at a larger town.

I got held in suspicion of a crime. Face down on the ground, middle of the night, in the rain, cuffed. Yea. Latino suspect. Yea. that's me. But a longhair in the vicinity. Hold him, run his ID, search him. A pretext, go fishing. See if you can get something on the longhair. Lagniappe if there is.

Sure. One can say the system worked, I wasn't deprived any liberties or freedoms. Sure, legit.

But you know, cut my hair off and start walking around with a #3 cut and business casual-- all that stopped. I get pulled over for going a little fast, or making a U-turn in the wrong place-- I don't even get a ticket, much less searched and held. I can walk any damn place at any hour and nobody cares. Drive all through the sticks-- no problem. No problem anywhere.

And just based on that, my own personal experience just cutting my hair-- I'm supposed to believe that black people aren't profiled?

It probably happens far less than a police officer hesitating because of fearing the persecution and gets killed because of it.

There are people who aren't ok with it. Unfortunately not enough people.

Additionally, I am getting fed up with all the "whataboutism" that goes on here.
This question is about the police, who are trained and paid to do a job which is to uphold the law equally for everyone. This they are not doing. It is NOT a question about black on black crime.
Likewise if someone asks a question about Trump please people stop with all the "what about Hillary" or "what about Obama"and answer the damn question.

Not to the point of supporting blacks murdering each other or police over this false narrative.
[c=#BF0080] Okay, I am not American but I have to say NO! it is NOT OKAY! Black Lives matter as do ALL lives matter![/c]

Do you have any statistics? How many cops have gone to jail? How many blacks attacked a cop, before being shot? How many didn't follow orders to raise their hands, and acted threatening? Every case is different.

@Celine That's an incident not a statistic. Statistics involve hard numbers. The hows and whys of it all.

And this thread is whats dysfunctional in American politics.

If your premise is false, it should be called out as wrong and that should be the end of it.

But it's now perfectly acceptable to not face facts, call the questioner names and argue whataboutisms.

It's not new. If you tell big enough lies, and keep drowning out sane people, you can aspire to and become a world leader.

for 2010-13, his data showed that about 92 percent of blacks who were murdered were killed by other blacks,

Just for the record, as an American, I'm not "ok" with race relations as they stand, but I'm far happier about them now then I was when I was a child during the 60s and early 70s.

Honestly, for a country whose childhood was dominated by slavery and mistreatment of its indigenous inhabitants, I feel like we're not doing that bad, although I'm worried we're in a dangerous adolescent phase right now.

I’m sure a lot of people are ok with it. A lot of us aren’t though.

A lot of these guys who were killed by officers weren't so innocent. Sure they should have not been killed but they should have complied with police orders instead of making the situation worse for everyone. If profiling reduces gang on gang violence in the black community then I'm okay with officers profiling.
