So in the US, why don't we have return free filing for our taxes yet?

The IRS get's all of most people's financial info anyway, shouldn't it be that they bill us and we check their work? Why is that that we have to figure our own tax burden, and if we're wrong we either lose money or get into legal trouble?

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Say in what? Our taxes? We don't. We're just responsible for calculating what they're supposed to be, and if we're wrong, we're in trouble, even though the IRS already has most all the financial data. What kind of system is that? What if we had to estimate our own electric bill and if we were wrong we get sued? That's a dumb concept.
