Can y'all just stop being so weird about feminism?

Why do so many men (and some women) have such an issue with feminism?
What problem do you have with equal opportunities?
RootinTootinHighFalutin · 36-40, F Best Comment
I'm a feminist even though I find some feminists obnoxious. I'm not an extremist, but I am a proud feminist. I'm a feminist because I know that I enjoy the benefits of activism by women before me who could not. I'm a feminist because I can vote. I'm a feminist because my bank accounts, credit cards, and mortgage are in my own name. I'm a feminist because I can dispose of my property as I see fit, marry without parental permission, seek a divorce on my own, and be a full-fledged person under the law. I'm a feminist because I've had premarital sex without shame. I am, in the end, a feminist because I believe that men, women, and everyone in between all have an inherent right to equitable participation in society, and because I know that we are, still, a long way off from achieving that goal.

@RootinTootinHighFalutin what do woman not have yet? i mean in the west of course. becasue if you would try the same thing for the middle east or africa or asisa it would be nice.

People have a problem with what I think of as Tumblr feminism. It's a different and loud culture where almost everything gets called rape.

@Doomflower yea. that's something to talk about. i came up with like dworkin and brownmiller. a tumblr post about people staring at you for asking for a vegan chai latte being rape is a problem.

They just don't know what feminism really is.

Beats me! Me thinks a lot are misinterpreting what feminism means and equals it with quotas, positive discrimination, and hating the male species. Sighs.

@SapphicHeart Seconded!
@SW-User :-)

Equal opportunity is fine if it goes across the board and covers everything not just random things women want covered..and it's not used to emasculate men just so women feel more power...its sickening..

@Celine agreed and when the feminazis accept that, it will make the cause a much easier transition

There should be no such thing as equality, because it is a ridiculous aim.. Men and Women are not equal, they are different. In fact all men are not equal or all women are not equal depending on the situation..

We should all strive for fairness and people treated on their merit, for any given situation
SW-User
@Dodgyrog Agreed, but both sides have to be given the opportunity to exercise the ability and merit to excel. That's what's at issue.
Dodgyrog · 41-45, M
Not to argue, but 😀

Not both sides.... all people..

Where discrimination is found, it should be punished...

But it should always be about merit..
I'm just going to say this. I'm a dude and I have only been supported by feminists. And no. I don't wear rompers, man buns, or whatever. Just a dude.
@Celine i personally don't give a shit what people wear or do. i don't evaluate masculinity on such metrics.

but i can't count the number of times i've voiced up about a woman's issue on line to have some prick ask if i wear a man bun or carry a murse (man purse), or pee sitting down, or whatever.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@Celine Kit Harrington buns on the other hand...

It isn't the 'equal opportunity' aspect of feminism that get's people going. It's the frickin Yettis!

@puck61 In the 9th circuit, a three-judge panel unanimously ruled that paying people based on their previous salaries does not violate equal pay laws, even if that results in a woman being paid less for the same job because she made less in her previous job. It's not against the law.

But because you asked and choose not to do research yourself: Citicorp North America, a subsidiary of Citibank, was found guilty of paying a woman 60% of her previous male counterpart for promotion of the Tampa Bay area; a specific position.
@SW-User Great. I'm glad to see that people who break the law are prosecuted! It's still a wind mill, there is no actual equal pay problem to speak of in the United States. It's a non issue. Hopefully companies stupid enough to break the law will continue to be prosecuted.
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User wait did they work for the same amount, same degrees and other things?
SW-User
Equal opportunity, no problem. Tearing down one side to prop up the other, I have issue with.

@Celine This I agree with - and want! It's the extremely noisy and increasingly spreading fringe that is worrisome because it threatens to overrun everything done up to this point.

equal opportunities is okay. but the problem is feminist nowadays (the loud people that hate men currently) want equal outcome. if you give the chance to both men and woman in a job interview the best will go through its all men that means the men were better if its all women the woman were better. but with all the new rules like you need equal woman and men in some jobs already what is wrong. and things like affirmative action, that give jobs to blacks and other colours or special things that specially give job to woman just for being a woman
popmol · 22-25, M
@CopperCicada thats life, and what do you think you can do about it? say rape to a man and get him in prison without proof? well indeed there's scum, but then i could say we don't need feminism because a rapist will rape and a murderer will murder even if you tell them that. so i can certainly tell you if you want to fix it you need a police state. and yeah sometimes i want it but it depends.

aah well then those feminist should do science instead of there gender studies class. and i never stopped them. and you want them to see some more beauty in your lab, what seems a bit more hypocritical but i'm obviously the same. and then still again the same thing the best scientist get hired. if they are all men thats it. life is not fair , and we still get equal opportunity but the outcome might be different. (i don't know if it was a joke or not but if its implied that i would touch woman in a lab if i worked there, then i'm deeply disturbed your say i would be someone who does sexual assault.)

what is all the bullshit you were babbling about? if you have trouble hiring a woman what are you bitching towards me for i say i want equality and you're a weirdo about it then you're not a professional. yeah thats the problem with a woman she wants a family and stuff alike maternity leave. but the baking pies bullshit is just odd. and men also have children and if the wife can't do what she had to do or couldn't get them from school he'll have too.

i think you're the problem then, you predetermine what others will think and even if its true not hiring them for not getting taken serious won't help them be taken serious. you seem to be part of the actual problem feminist should fight instead of the equal outcome and all the other shit
@popmol wow. you sure ran with long and hard. too bad you didn't have the ball. 🙄

i think it's overreactions like this that frustrate women, more than anything else.

no "bitching" from me. just sharing what "feminism"-- whatever that is-- means to me in my life. that's about me, not you, or anyone else.

no need for a police state.

no need to dump on men. beat them up. steal their jobs. rape them back.

for me it's really simple.

i just teach and mentor. i'm good at that. i call men out for their shit. i call women out for their shit too.

that's actually "feminism". not some tumblr feed.

it's really just being a good person.

it's about being a good teacher.

it's about being a good tech-team player.
popmol · 22-25, M
@CopperCicada sorry but if yo usay i would touch woman when i'm not supposed to or i understood it that way and i asked i don't see the problem.

well yeah but its its not clear then i don't know.

thats what i do too.
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
because feminism is not about equal rights and opportunities. it's the same when people complain about misogyny.
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
@SapphicHeart do you know that you can select whatever country you want right? how dafuk you are that stupid seriously
@unknownpoetx
That's your issue, not mine. It's Sunday where you present yourself living. Ciao.
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
@SapphicHeart no fucking stupid it's not sunday where I am just because someone puts whatever in the profile doesn't make it true. moreover not sure if you know but people actually travel.

because theres alot of women who have twisted what feminism is really about. when they talk about equality i'm all for it but when you see women "Fighting against the patriarchy" then they do there cause a disservice.

@Celine same is true for every cause.

when opportunities are equalized, the ones who had the advantage lose something . They gain something too but they tend to only notice what they have lost

@Celine yes can't blame them for that, nobody wants to give up what they have but I think it's a short-sighted approach

Some of the things feminist say are not true, such as the gender pay gap. Some of the things feminist do defeat their claims of wanting women and men to be equal. Such as the ban on manspreading and mansplaining. That's why people have a problem with it.
Pfuzylogic · M
In 1972 I saw the ERA go through the Indiana legislature. It would seem that there would have been a lot more progress since then. Women were being exploited by men that hired women for things other than their job.
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
Many people who say "I'm not a feminist" support the basic tenants, they're just scared of the label because of how it's been so demonized. But I mean, c'mon, grow a spine. Feminism is an unequivocal good.
Carver · 31-35, F
It's contemporary feminism that people have an issue with, and for good reason. Feminists has forgotten what feminism is really all about.
@Carver not me... 😉
katielass · F
Hon, women today already have equal OPPORTUNITY thanks to us old time feminists. You're looking for equal outcome regardless of effort. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
I was raised by a single mother after my father was killed. She was a feminist and I have no problem accepting women and men as equals.
