Should the US government require that all Americans be proficient in Spanish?

SageWanderer · 70-79, M Best Comment
How about all Americans become proficient in English first?
@SageWanderer That would be an improvement.

@flipper1966 Thanks for best answer. I still lack skills in the language but some of the work my teacher friends have shared with me is disturbing.

No, I took french in highschool and can't remember a thing. I sure as hell won't remember any spanish at this point.

@Neurotoxin That's because by the time a student reaches HS, the odds of learning a language fluently drop to almost zero. Languages should be taught concurrently from birth, studies suggest.

[c=#800055]Not just spanish but I think it would be nice if they thoroughly taught different languages. Our public education sucks though so we should fix that first. [/c]

@Socialclutz Again, the question isn't whether foreigners should learn English. It's whether we should learn Spanish, which is spoken more frequently world-over than our own language. I hope the cave is comfortable.

Wow how dumb are you truly? Look at the implication you dumb ass. Don't let the door hit you when you block me for slapping you in the face with this comment

@Socialclutz See now, you are exactly the kind of patriot that makes me so proud to share my homeland with you.

For natural born citizens, there are not requirements for anything.
@Xuan12 Maybe there should be!

Actually I think the Mexican government should insist that all Americans be proficient in Spanish.
SW-User
No but I'd still like to be.
@SW-User That's true. I'd love to hear what people are saying about me, thinking I can't speak Spanish.

@flipper1966 My co-worker is the same way. She's New Yor-rican (is that right?) so people assume she is black but she speaks fluent Spanish so watch out! She has some funny stories as a result, I bet you do, too.
SW-User
Lol true and I always wished I spoke another language so why not one where I would get to use it. 😊

No but it would help be helpful if we did learn.
@MrBrownstone todo es mejor en español!!
