Do you think Trump got elected in part because of the weirdness of 9/11?

nedkelly · 61-69, M
NO - He was elected as Americans were sick to death of the same old bullshit from professional politicians
Peaches · F
@nedkelly So TRUE Ned!👌🏼😐
@Peaches 😳

@bijouxbroussard Just because I don't like Trump doesn't mean I don't understand WHY a lot of people voted for him. 😟People are so sick of "the same old game" and was hoping he'd be the one to change things for the better. I personally didn't want to vote for either one of them. I find it scary that Hillary and Donald are the BEST the USA could find to be our next president?!😶
Jazzy · 26-30, F
He was elected because people believed he had the art of the deal and he was cooking up a plan to make Mexico pay for the wall. But he didn't have a plan. He never had a plan.

@JohnOinger 😱 You're gay?
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@Jazzy lol no just pretend to be one On SW
Jazzy · 26-30, F
@JohnOinger okay 😉
It is the behavior of the alt left and the alt left media that got Trump elected, plus the fact that the democrats picked the worst possible candidate to run against him. Middle America simply got sick and tired of the alt left insanity. I'm not talking about 'liberals'. I'm talking about crazy people with crazy notions. I've never had a problem with liberals.

hi puck61
wise words.
I was just musing about 9/11 and how it fed the craziness resulting in Trump.
best wishes

Would Iraq war have happened without 9/11? Obama presidency without Iraqi war? Trump presidency without Obama?

Everything in politics after 9/11 has happened in part because of it, and not only in the US.

@sogdianrock I was thinking more of the weapons of mass destruction, or the 'spontaneous' Arab springs.

Trump reaped what the establishment sowed. Their fault.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi Cierzo
I see.
Best wishes

I didn't know that 3 thousand innocent people killed was "weirdness". Thanks, SW. I learn more all the time.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi uncalled4 ·
No disrespect intended just reflecting on how even now there is widespread distrust and contention on what happened even. Why for example did World Trade Centre Building 7 collapse when it was not hit by a plane. Why then attack Saddam Hussein when he was against such terrorism? I mean so much has arisen out of 9/11 it has destabilised established politics leading to Trump is all I mean.
Best wishes
:)

@sogdianrock Ok. I get what you mean.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
No. Hillary was a terrible candidate and fought an awful campaign. And the rest of the republican field were complete muppets. That's why we have Trump.

It's in the numbers. Trump got less votes than Romney - who got crushed by Obama - and still won. This was an election that nobody was especially excited for, not some sort of mass wave of sentiment.

9/11 was a long time ago. It no longer has a stranglehold on the mass consciousness, and that's a good thing.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay Most qualified ever? That's a bit of a stretch.

I never liked her, or trusted her. Her tenure at state left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I've observed her career since the 90s, and felt nothing but dread at her ascent. She personifies self-interest, cynicism, arrogance, desire for power and status for their own sake, etc. And she has no vision.

I voted against trump because I think it's dangerous to have a clown at the helm of a superpower. But I didn't do it happily looking to a bright future.
Ynotisay · M
@QuixoticSoul Doesn't make a bit of difference if you 'like' her. She had the most experience, on both a state and federal level, than anyone who's run as well as having relationships with leaders throughout the world. She was the victim of right wing bullshit since the 90's. Belief becomes fact to a lot of people. Say something enough and those who think emotionally will believe it. That's right in line with what I initially said.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay Of course it matters - likability is an important measure of electability. It is key when it comes to motivating the base, and is undoubtedly one of the important qualifications in a US election.

And I was not impressed with her experience, and feel that she did a poor job at her state and federal posts. Her performance at State especially left me feeling like she was not suited to conducting high stakes foreign policy.

I don't pay attention to right wing hatchet jobs. I still voted for her - but I'm not surprised that she lost.
Not really. If my countrymen had long term memories, they would never have put back in power the folks who got us embroiled in a needless conflict with Iraq, who had nothing to do with 9/11.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi bijouxbroussard
Ah ok. I was just trying to understand how US politics got so crazy Trump could be President.
Best wishes
:)
@sogdianrock That likely has nothing to do with 9/11. Trump's divisiveness appealed to the racists and xenophobes still in our midst. And a large number of people in swing states opted out of the voting process altogether.

A majority of the 9/11 pilots were Saudis, as was Osama bin Laden. If Trump was concerned with 9/11, our relationship with Saudi Arabia would've changed dramatically. It hasn't. They didn't even make Trump's travel ban list. And he certainly didn't stop doing business with them.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi bijouxbroussard
Politics sure is a strange thing. Thanks for explaining it some.
Best wishes

cycleman · 61-69, M
CIA stole it away from Hilary. Trump was just the lucky one to be in the right spot at the time.
sogdianrock · 61-69, M
hi cycleman
I remember that. Its as a steal wasn't it. I liked Hilary.
Best wishes
