Is Trump's pardon of Arpaoi a presidential endorsement of racism and contempt of the law and the constitution ?

“With his pardon of Arpaio, Trump has chosen lawlessness over justice, division over unity, hurt over healing,” ACLU Deputy Legal Director Cecillia Wang said in a statement. “Once again, the president has acted in support of illegal, failed immigration enforcement practices that target people of color and have been struck down by the courts. His pardon of Arpaio is a presidential endorsement of racism.”
Of course it is. Trump has already indicated due process means nothing to him if he's convinced someone is guilty. The fact that he would preemptively pardon Arpaio before he could even be fairly tried like any other citizen is proof that Trump doesn't care how Arpaio may've abused his power, he's willing to support it.

@RootinTootinHighFalutin what do you mean by birther?
@Jm31xxx A "birther" is somebody who believed that Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States, and therefore wasn't eligible to be President.
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
Ah okay. Thanks.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
Not at all. Arpaio never should have been charged in the first place. If your going to make a uninformed statement about someone at least learn how to spell their name correctly.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch Bwahaha the kook blocked me - very happy I got to spend a couple of hours finding ways to repeatedly call him an idiot before that happened.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul He just blocked me too. It must have been just too much for him to bear having to re-read the threads. He's at peace now presumably.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch Awww, you really should have got some of your own punches in. It's like beating up a crippled Hitler - incredibly easy and you never feel bad about it.
Lol.. you get dumber and dumber by the day.... 😁👌
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@MasterLee Think of it as horseshoe theory in action.

Good lord, if that term twists your panties so hard - have you tried simply not being a cuckservative? It's not that hard.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@QuixoticSoul you have devolved into blathering idiocy.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@MasterLee You'd understand much better if you did your assigned exercises. Goddamn, did you even fucking graduate?
Arpaio has a long life of unpunished crimes. Do you remember the story about how Arpaio framed James Saville for murder and then got caught doing it? Saville was framed as an assassin to boost reelection chances for Arpaio. Saville spent four years in jail awaiting trial, before a jury acquitted him. Starting to make sense why Trump worships Arpaio. He's exactly Trump's cup of tea, up to and including obstruction of justice and subverting checks/balances.

@RootinTootinHighFalutin
He's exactly Trump's cup of tea
Love the British-ism. ;-)
@Burnley123 All for you... 😘
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Of course it is. Trump does not believe in the rule of law. Certainly not with respect to himself, and through this action, he's shown that he does not respect the legal process for others. the pardon violated DOJ guidelines for pardons, and pushed Arpaio ahead of 20,000 other people who have applied for presidential pardons, which are almost always given once someone has served their sentence. Arpaio hadn't even been sentenced yet for his crime. Trump is sending another message to his white supremacist friends and supporters that racism will not only be tolerated, it will be celebrated during his rule.

@windinhishair Is there a parallel here with Nero?! :(
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User Quite possibly. Or Benedict Arnold.
Who needs a Constitution? Certainly not a white Supremacist.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@nudistsueaz The federal court, with its injunction, changed the law. That's what those courts do. By his words, that should have been enough. Then they issued a direct injunction. And then they enforced its violation via their power to charge someone with criminal contempt of court. They can't enforce the laws, not their jobs, But they do enforce their injunctions.

What someone does, or does not do in DC, was not related to any of this.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@QuixoticSoul Wrong, no laws were changed. Just a judge offering his opinion on the law, the laws were never changed. Do you live in Arizona?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@nudistsueaz A judicial ruling is not exactly an opinion, as we tend to use the word in common parlance. It is not a suggestion. A judge cannot rewrite the laws, not their purview. But they can block laws, in whole or in part. The Feds blocked parts of SB 1070, which resulted in this whole hoopla.

I do not live in Arizona. But I am reasonably familiar with how the process of judicial review works.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I have read up about this guy. It's not just that he did racial profiling but showed contempt for the law. He's intimidated journalists and once hired a private investigator to trail the wife of the judge who sentenced him. It shows you what kind of approach Trump values and also his lack of respect for democratic institutions. This is presumably what Trump would want nationwide. Trumpism is creeping Fascism.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 You've got your information correct. Arpaio has long operated outside of the law in Maricopa County. Prisoners in unusual numbers have died in his jails and he has routinely abused his latino prisoners. He has taken great pride in violating the law, so he deserved his contempt conviction. But the abuses he's guilty of are the same that Trump admires, and it is no surprise that Trump has pardoned him.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
It wasn't racial profiling, that why you are wrong. They did DUI checks on every car. Not on just Latino's.
@nudistsueaz there's a lot more to arpaio than "profiling".
Trump will do anything to cause chaos and call attention to Himself. He doesn't give a damn about the law or people.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User wow, no critical thinking from you for sure!
@MasterLee, 'Liberals', care about all peoples lives. You can play games in life but it's not a game, it's about living and dying and surviving in between. No one is alive by choice, didn't choose: Parents, heritage, gender, color, country, etc. Some people believe they are born Superior to others.

Yup pretty much ... he might as well be wearing a white hood
whoowho · 41-45, F
I see it as a battlecry (of sorts) to his unlawful loyal followers aka Mike Fynn and Co.

If you defend me, I will pardon you.

I also see this as an opportunity for Trump to pacify his racist base. He needs them need to stay "hooked" for re-election since he has not been able to do anything he promised during last election (wall, repeal and jailing Clinton). That's the only reason why he holds rallies. Unfortunately his base is too stupid to realize it.

@RodionRomanovitch and his supporters...it's sad that they know so little but whines so loud...sigh
Northwest · M
@whoowho The dead cat strategy (c) Burnley123 :-) This is how they operate.
Northwest · M
@RodionRomanovitch When did the actual truth matter to them?

In one of his tweets, yesterday, he re-tweeted Sheriff David Clarke's book, ironically, he did not realize he was tweeting an advertisement to Amazon Books :-) and of course, the link goes to Clarke's series of tweets, attacking Obama for not responding to Katrina fast enough, when Trump tweeted about it a couple of times, in between brags about himself. Way not to politicize a natural disaster. Eventually, they will blame Harvey on Obama.

Yes. It is also a rejection of the rule of law.

Trump is crazy. Seriously. I don't even think he has a clue what the hell he's doing
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@SW-User Presidents all have the power to Pardon and most have used it.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@nudistsueaz and some get it right like this one
SW-User
@nudistsueaz Understand... it's just how the pardon is used
SW-User
Granting a presidential pardon to a man who has spent years overtly abusing his position, lobbying for racist and unconstitutional policies and then defying the very criminal justice system he swore an oath to uphold?

I'd say so.
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
70 million dollars. That's about what Sheriff Arpaio has cost the American tax payer. I see the name Arpaio, I always feel like I have to jump in with that fun fact.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Jm31xxx who was he "racist" towards?
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
Basically anyone who didn't look like a good old boy.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Jm31xxx oh, you mean all criminals regardless of race, color, Creed, or gender?
SWAR13 · 41-45, M
Most had never heard of Joseph Arpaio before his pardon. Let him now live in infamy as the racist, human rights violator, sack of shit he is.
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
@SWAR13 The stain will be on his name for generation's
Northwest · M
@SWAR13 It's possible you have not been watching Fox, or any of the alt-right media sources, or you have not watched any of Trump's campaign speeches, but they've been talking up Arpaio's patriotism, and how unfair of a deal he's got, for nearly 2 years now.

To the country's majority, you know the majority that did not vote for Trump, he's a bully, a racist and a small town thug, who used the power of the law to harass, bully and commit criminal acts, for which he was convicted and sentenced to jail time.
Tracos · 51-55, M
I think so....

What did he do unlawful? Inform me.

@QuixoticSoul yes and don't ever stop and wise up. The more you resist, the fewer of you will be in Congress.

Once again he has proven that he will remain faithful to his followers.

Are the Democrats keeping track of all the loopholes Trump has taken advantage of? I doubt it. Instead of whinging, they should inact policy. It's not like Trump has the Republicans (in Congress) on his side.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
He was upholding the statues of Arizona. That is his sworn duty. So what's the problem?
@MrBrownstone like.... the sabrina morrison case and controversy was under gwb's administration. the munnell leak and a bunch of other things about sex cases and abuse of power as far back as the beginning of BO's first term.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MrBrownstone And there was plenty said protesting Arpaio's racism going back more than a decade. You weren't paying attention. The court order he violated was from 2011, for example. The reason he had a court order is that he was taken to court for racial profiling. Many people were paying attention to his crimes.
Northwest · M
@MrBrownstone Obama was selectively applying the law, based on race? That's news to me, and the entire world. Sure look like the discussion is going way over your head.
