Anybody listening to LBC in London ?

They're discussing what's called 'BREXIT'. The UK's leaving of the European Union.
It's possible outcomes and the current negotiating stance.

The chancellor of the exchequer has set 'the cat amongst the pigeons' by issuing a statement suggesting that it will probably take up to five years to complete.

This, while the Prime Minister is away on holiday !!!

Truly frightening just how little either politicos or many of the public know about what it's all about or what's going on. !!

I think Hammond is actually correct about the five years.

He is a right wing politicians and pro Austerity etc and progressives have good reasons to dislike him but he is sane. Within his own terms he is competent and knows what he is doing. The likes of Gove, May, Fox, Davis and Boris have bad politics + incompetence. Dominic Cummings has said Brexit was wrong and he was the chief campaign strategist. I also think Davis is starting to realise how out of his depth he is.

The Brexit fantasy is starting to fall down but even Remain voters will pay the price.

@LvChris He actually does have a more realistic view of Brexit that Thereasa May. She said it will be a "Red White and Blue Brexit" and that "No deal is better than a bad deal". Buckethead says it will be "a shit show" and he is right.

It says something about the state of our country and student prankster dressed as a spoof science fiction character understands the biggest change our country has gone though in decades better than our PM.

I am well informed about Brexit and how many in the UK are adamantly opposed.

@Terrance Yes.

@SW-User Yes what?
SW-User
@Terrance Yes, the vote was for leaving.
Terrance · 41-45, M
Because it's unprecedented. Very difficult to unravel 30 years of law that was managed from Brussels
lorne13 · 61-69, M
leaving would be extremely expensive for England, it would probably be very hard to get the rest of the UK to go, so no government wants to be associated with the actual exit
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@lorne13 The whole of the UK is leaving, even the parts which didn't vote to. But yes, reality of the shit-storm is starting to dawn on the Tory Party. They will not be able to get anything that they have promised and it will reflect badly on them, as it deserves to.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 legally I don't see how England could force to leave, time will tell I guess
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@lorne13 I like you but you misunderstand. The UK is the country with the Government. It countains four historic nations within it; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland which are legally and constitutionally part of the UK. All nations elect members to parliament based on proportion of their population.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own 'assemblies' which operate a bit like US State Governments but even they are legally and constitutionally beholden to the actions of the UK national Government.

Think of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as like American states or Canadian provinces. They are more than that in terms of history and culture but not so in terms of constitutional process and power.

I'm beginning to dare to hope that it won't actually happen.

@Burnley123 Economists never get it right though...

But it is a house of cards and QE and low interest rates are just a plaster
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Terrance Yes and no. I have problems with conventional economics because they don't acknowledge the macro economic effect of private debt and are blind to systemic risk which is why they didn't predict the 2007 crash. I also agree with you about QE and low interest rates as a plaster.

Conevntional economics does work within its own terms though and economists or all doctrines are predicting Britain will suffer, the difference being how much. I hope they are wrong obviously.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 And THAT'S the worry !
This whole issue wasn't brought about by Brits. being unhappy with Europe. It was a sitting Prime Minister looking to quell rebellious noise within his own party of Euro skeptics !

A silly battle of wills that might have doomed two or three generations to uncertainty on EVERY level !
Homes; jobs; pensions; salaries will ALL be dependent on how well the UK thrives post Brexit.
and I sure you also heard North Korea fired another missile this morning

It's going to be a bumpy ride

@LvChris In the Brexit campaign; Michael Gove was presented with predictions from economists about Britain doing badly out of Brexit. His response was to say;

"In this country we've had enough of experts."

The audience clapped him.

Not seen that but Kellyanne Conway talked about alternative facts.

I think the US Republicans have had an anti-intellectual streak for a long time. Obviously its got worse with Trump in the White House. The Brexit campaign is definitely relatable to Trump in lots of ways.

Its possible because of how the right use the culture war. We are on your side against the Coastal (or London) elite intellectual types. In reality its a smoke screen for big business to get more power and escape scrutiny but unfortunately it works sometimes.
