I just got a phone call; one of those wee pre-recorded things, that informed me that I had to press one to be connected to revenue & customs

& if I didn't I'd get arrested today for tax fraud.

I hung up.

Looks like I've just quadruple booked myself today.

They would would never give a warning. They would just do it. That's how all government agencies work.

@DeWayfarer You'll actually get notices in the mail.

They never do it by phone; can't really receive printed receipts...

Well, you can receive printed stuff over the phone but such requires both a second line and a facsimile machine which is something that never caught on for home use.

@Amyrakunejo yet never over the phone! Mail has to much of a delay to be an actual warning of arrest. That's usually just a notice. When push comes to shove they will just do it.
@DeWayfarer correct

@DeWayfarer In the case of not paying taxes, they will not prosecute if you are unable to pay, because they'll never get paid, and they know this.

They only go after those that have chosen not to pay, and those that owe larger amounts they'll go after first. I mean, greed is greed.

@Amyrakunejo if you are that rich your lawyer's will surely let you know! 馃槅

@Amyrakunejo knew a girl back in Texas around 2002 that owed the IRS 40,000. Her lawyer friend let her know when.

@DeWayfarer I mean, they do keep a backlog of people who owe them money, in descending order of highest to lowest. Like, someone that owes a grand is less likely to be sought after than someone who owes fifteen grand.
