No. There are many thoughtful and compassionate people here. They stay away from politically charged battles-to-the-death on posts, so those posts make it it look like everybody's a lunatic.

Some indulge in "sliding discussion" (introducing something unrelated to deflect talking about awkward issues). Others go immediately to attack mode: if you don't agree with me on x, you are obviously a misogynistic racist who hates bunnies. Or a snowflake who wants to give my house to a Guatemalan refugee.

These are not in the majority, but they are the loudest. They are on both sides. What they appear not to understand is that they drive away anyone who is still capable of making a thoughtful decision and severely limit their pool of listeners. They end up only interacting with people who already agree with them

@Mamapolo2016 Very well stated, great breakdown. I find myself getting heated sometimes in discussions. Often in that situation the other person is glorified in their happiness that they bested me. Regardless of the debate, I often do feel stupid. Not for any particular outline, but because I engaged in it. I have been making a more conscious effort to stay out of the verbal garbage. As it has no point unless you are both trying to legitimately learn and genuinely respond to the other person. Otherwise it is just a garbage ego based brain dump.
@okaybut Yeah. They're like fly strips.
