what's the concept of cats with 9 lives?

are their lifetimes literally just 9 years? or is it when they get killed they reincarnate?

Cats are known for doing and surviving dangerous things.
Walking on narrow fences; being chased by dogs; leaping at objects/animals from heights etc.
Any time you see a cat survive something like that you say 'He must have lost one of his 9 lives'.

this makes a whole lot of sense thank you for your thoughts

There is a proverb that goes.....
A CAT HAS 9 LIVES.
FOR THREE, HE PLAYS
FOR THREE, HE STRAYS AND THE
LAST THREE, HE STAYS.
i think it more their physical attributes , they can jump high , have great balance , can fall from great heights and land on their feet , escape from scary circumstances , hence its like they got 9 lives

Maybe it's because you can never seem to get rid of them. Once they take over the neighborhood they breed like wildfire and go through your trash. And at night when you're trying to sleep they make those demonic mating sounds. And then the dead birds and squirrels show up on your doorstep.

Cats don't bring you dead things because they love you, they do it because they feel that we are incapable of doing it for ourselves. We're just their bitches.

@NoDaveParty: yeah, they bring dead birds because they need food
MrSmooTh · 31-35, M
I don't like the birds anyway. One time I told my cat to kill one that was making noise while I was trying to sleep. She totally did. But she committed suicide by jumping in front of my moms car.

No, they can escape death 9 times.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
although a car hitting them would kill them instantly though

@nurseVneck: Only when they had used all their 9 live's already 😂
you get 9 chances to live from mortal danger
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
can you...elaborate? so they just get 9 chances of escape...i mean how does one know when a "credit" is used?
@nurseVneck: a near miss that should have killed you

@nurseVneck: Yeah Lol I think the earlier responders elaborated clearly on the subject. I chose a more concise response. I hope you don't hold it against me.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
@Mav1962: why would i hold it against you =D
@nurseVneck: Beats me. Lol
