How do you calm your pets?

Yes, sometimes it is impossible. But we all have our little tricks. For instance, my cats will play with a string over fighting, but once I stop they're more aggressive. Oddly enough, a female vocal song will often calm them down just enough. Lots of trial and error.

Cats can't be wound up drawing out their hunter instincts then expect them to be calm afterwards
I hold their paws so they can scratch me ,and speak to them in a low pampering voice ,,good kitty ,,calm down no one wants to hurt you
Until they calm and I can pet them around the ears and face ,
being careful not to stroke them to much and build up static electricity and shock them ,making them think I hurt them and mess the calming them up
Soon they are wanting me to pet their face or their belly ,,
Not really easy for you to get by telling someone ,,its always better if I show someone ,,but with over 35 rescued cats now ,,some say I am good at it
Dogs feel intimidated by humans because we tower over them
I normally get low ,,stick out my hand ,speak calmly to them let them come to me and smell me ,,but if they are scared I don't push the issue ,,they just might try to bite to warn you to leave them be
Once they let me pet them I try to pet the chest ,,let them smell and lick me
Its mainly letting them calm down ,and approach you
If its my dog ,,I call her with a stern voice ,she knows by voice commands she has been trained to follow what I expect of her
I am good with animals and kids ,,its adults that I want to use a whip and chair on some of them LOL
