Sometimes, after I've been petting him and hugging him a while and talking baby talk, my cat will lie on the arm of my chair and look at me with the most amazing contentment in his eyes, like a baby who is so safe and so secure he KNOWS he can trust me.

Since my cat is a rescue from a kill shelter, and spent time as a stray, and spent his entire first year here absolutely terrified, it's extremely satisfying for me to see this.

It is quite the compliment. They wouldn't be doing that if they weren't totally sure of how loved they are.
