We had some toys with a similar design at the pet store I used to work at.
Cat toys with mesh generally last longer. And if he likes to chew on things you can buy honeysuckle sticks (mine freaking loves honeysuckle), or these no-hide stix by earth animal.
They also make tiny kong toys for cats that you can put treats in.

@AmbivalentFriability I will have to look into getting more mesh stuff. Maverick rips and tears on a Doomguy sort of level at times. He'll sink his teeth into it and tear at it viciously with all four paws full of claws. 😅
I have some of the treat toys, actually. Volos is obsessed with them and will regularly pop in from hunting outside to get himself a few treats. 😁 It's the cutest.

awww. I have a treat dispensing ball for my cat. She's normally not big into toys she can operate herself, but this she likes. The holes on it are too large though, and make it too easy for everything to pour out. Might try putting marbles in there to make it harder to roll.

@AmbivalentFriability He's a not-so-little fluffy killing machine, that one. He's laid me open pretty good a few times too. 😅 He's usually a sweetheart though. (Got him, and Volos, specifically to scare off rats which have become a problem here in the city. And that they do well.)
Not a bad idea, add a little resistance to it. Or maybe get some plasticard and cut it to shape to reduce the size of the opening.
