We’re thinking of getting a second dog (already got a spaniel, 4 years)

If we do then will probably be a puppy, does anyone have any advice? Hubs not keen but I’d like another.

Go to the local shelter. They frequently have great dogs, and some are already housebroken.

We particularly like the springer spaniels but will keep looking out @katielass

@TicketyBoo Or most breeds have their own rescue organizations. I sometimes get my dogs from a rescue organization but I also go to the shelter and choose a dog who isn't likely to be adopted. Everyone wants the cute or pretty ones. Nothing wrong with that, but the not so pretty ones need and deserve love too. I have a schnauzer who was horribly abused before I got her. She was deemed unadoptable but I got lucky and got her. She has come a very long way and is almost normal most of the time. And my heeler belonged to a man who shot himself. She whines and howls when she hears EMS but she is easily comforted. That said, even dogs you think you can't handle, you can. They want our love so badly.

Years ago we got our very first springer for a rescue and it took her such a long time to settle. Now we’re getting older I’m not sure I could cope but will certainly look into it to see what is available@katielass

It's a good idea if the older dog is well trained as the younger dog will learn quickly from the older dog.

This is my thinking, just hope it works that way lol@TheConstantGardener
