I need advice.

I'm slowly getting Riff the kitten accustomed to going outside. When I first let her go in the courtyard she made a scramble for freedom and I nearly lost her.
So now I carry her in my arms. We sit and enjoy the springtime sun and air.
My question is do I let her discover on her own (which I don't feel good about ) and hope she'll come back?
The more you try to protect her the more she will want to run and the less likely she will know how to protect herself.
I started my cats on leashes, I only did it for a few days before they sussed out their environment

@MushroomFaerie Maybe I'll try this leash idea. Pretty much everyone has recommended it.
@Cavedweller you can get harnesses so they hold the whole kitty and not just their neck

@MushroomFaerie Good stuff. She's a squirmer and I don't want to hurt her.

Can we see a photo of her
SW-User
@Cavedweller she really is, don't lose her
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@SW-User I'll do my damndest. Just don't want her to be deprived of an outdoor life.

the first time my cats went out they disappeared for a week but they came back on their own now they dont disappear at all
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@TheCoolestCat I couldn't take that.

Maybe let her get used to you. Feed her, pet her. If she is made a scramble for freedom, that could mean she wants to escape and is probably afraid of her new surrounding.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@SW-User She's fine with me and her home. I think maybe she just got overwhelmed.
SW-User
You are advised to keep them in for 6 months so they get used to where they live
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@SW-User It's been six months and she's up to date with her FIV shots.
SW-User
@Cavedweller oh yikes
Well I think I'd be cautious and maybe try a leash
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@SW-User That seems to be the general consensus.
Love4All · 56-60, F
A few people have lost their cats
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Love4All After years of living indoors (we lived on a busy road ) she finally got the chance to see the outside world when we moved. She just naturally took to it. Didn't try to run away.
Love4All · 56-60, F
@Cavedweller interesting, I’ve never had cats
I just wonder if someone would keep it
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Love4All She IS a terribly good looking cat. And friendly.

🤨 nooooooooooo
Chap0406 · 41-45, F
@Cavedweller i wouldn't let her out unless u hold her or they do sell leashes try that! Then she can discover and you won't loose her!
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Chap0406 She'd hate a leash. I do want her to roam free. Within limits, obviously.
Chap0406 · 41-45, F
@Cavedweller maybe just in the beginning.. Idk but it sounds like she runs so she may not be ready to go alone yet
No...maybe let her walk on a leash. That allows her to explore without the risk of her running away.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@bijouxbroussard She hates having things around her neck in a big way.
@Cavedweller Even a collar ?
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@bijouxbroussard Even a collar. She's microchipped so if she gets picked up by the council she will not be destroyed or rehomed.
