how much do you think dogs understand :/

I don't know how much speech they understand, but they ynderstand tone and some are extremely sensitive to mood
More than he lets on

More than they say.
@NankerPhelge And barks. She's tri-lingual.

@Mamapolo2016 Mine actually whines and sometimes sounds like she’s trying to talk (but without words).
@DragonFruit Don't discount the word thing entirely. I was visiting friends in Mobile and on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night I encountered their cat who glanced at me and said, quite clearly, "Hello."
They can play poker.
They can line dance.
They know how to smell to get strangers
to leave the room.
They're about matched with most of what we can do!!
I think they understand a lot.

I think they know...
too much.

@LomeMarsupial I know dogs are good at card games, my friend Mark told me that about 30 years ago.
@NankerPhelge Was he able to ever pay them back?
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@LomeMarsupial You mean playing for money? I don't know, he didn't mention anything about that. Lol :)

I think ours hacked the Amazon account. The mailman delivered some chew toys and a smoked ham last week.
@Mamapolo2016 $5 could get a whitney houston cover band but I don't know about no Rat-Pack.
Is a fiver what they tip at restaurants these days? At least the doggo sort of saved you the... tail-end of a restaurant visit-treat. 😫😟😫
Egh

@LomeMarsupial The cat is in on it too. Smoked salmon was delivered today.

I think they understand our emotions, more than anything. They may not understand all of our words, but they seem to interpret our vocal inflections very well, and they can also read our facial expressions. And I've heard that they can even smell certain emotions, like fear and sadness. And they interpret body language very well too.

And sometimes they know what we're about to do before we even begin to do it. Our last dog always knew when she was about to get her teeth brushed, and she hated it, so she always went and hid underneath the couch. Maybe she could smell the toothpaste when the cap was taken off the tube. But sometimes she went and hid even before the cap was taken off. ESP maybe?

They always seem to know I like them.
Research shows they have about the second highest level of social intelligence to humans. It is why we get along. Their socialization system is similar to that of humans.

Doctors who study dogs and their behavior say they understand 17 words and do well with baby talk, so go for a walk is better translated as walkie

He understands what he needs to and communicates remarkably well without words.
I would have to ask the dog in question
And mine makes logical deductions. "If she tells me to go to bed and I do, and she gives me a treat, MAYBE if I voluntarily go to bed..." and she does it over and over until I get it.
