Mia has graduated from her crate while we’re away

To a confined space of the hallway leading to the bedrooms.
She’s 8 months now so maybe by the time she’s 1 she’ll be free roaming while we’re away.

How long did it take for your dog(s) to be trained enough to be left alone (freely) in the house?
When we got ours, he was estimated to be 1-1/2 years old. I spoke at length with the staff of the SPCA shelter I found him at and they mentioned that he had never had an "accident" even though the shelter adoption center (located in a mall) was not staffed overnight. I spent a lot of time searching shelters for the perfect dog for us. He had all the qualities I was looking for.....housebroken was a bonus!

Initially we put him in the crate when we left for errands. He didn't have any issues so we started leaving him more and more. At the 4 month point we started leaving him for up to 6 hours as we did day trips...no issues.

I still put him in his crate overnight....but that is because I have weird mental visions when someone is licking my face at 4AM..........
We got my childhood dog when she was 6 months old, it took my parents until 14 months before she would be able to free roam. My mom was old school training since she trained horses.
