Block and stop, then calm them down and talk to them. Do not punish them in any way. Be constructive, discover solutions to their angst and find a strategy that will help your child recover quickly.

Would never happen, and never did after three children grown up, they respected me and feared me, despite never hitting one of them. Maintaining a strong mental discipline with them, they love and respect me still,now even though they are grown up. It requires a mental strength.

One of my daughters ONCE hit her sibling, I dragged her up stairs, I told her in no uncertain terms the only person who has the power and privilege of raising their hand to anyone is ME! And even I don't do it. Never had any hitting in the house again ever. Terrified her.

Ok, I would hope I would have the self restraint to restrain my child because if one of them hit me, chances are, they've lost gat damn mind & they need immediate medical attention. They would be seeing a doctor and psychologist, immediately. But I'll be honest, there's a chance they would be picking up their teeth.
