What gave my 7.5 yr old the idea that he could sit on the refrigerator shelf? His 72lb body broke it! 😡

Luckily the glass didn't break and he's not hurt. I balanced the shelf as best as I could but it will need to be replaced 😞

Your little is the size of an average 10 or 11-year-old but still, thinks with the brain of the 7-year-old he is, so in his mind, he is little because he is little. Kids his age do some pretty silly things at times which I am sure you are well aware of. Reading your comment above to smiler2012 it seems like he was just trying to do his chore and didn't mean any harm. Glad he never got hurt.

Thank you @hami1091: yes I call him my big little baby lol 😂
He really does think he's little. But at 4'3" and 72lbs he's not so little lol doctor thinks he could lose 5lbs. But isn't worried about it. His BMI is 19.5 he'll either grow into his weight or shed some during his sports activities.
He's so proud of himself.
And he really wasn't trying to be mischievous when it happened so hitting him wasn't on my mind. He's safe, materials can be replaced. He also learned his lesson. Electronic restriction for the day should be punishment enough.

The fact that he is 7.5 yrs old is reason enough to try...lol

Ohhh owch. He thought the shelf doubled as a chair I guess? Lol I thought mine was bad making capes for our cats out of disk towels. I was like "What are you doing?!" and she's like "King Kitty needs a cape." Lol

@SarcasmQueen: 😂

It's posts like this that make me glad I have cats. :-)
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@NigelDoes: lol my husband has a thick accent and Siri understands him all the time! I don't have an accent like his and sometimes it just gets things wrong! Lol
But sometimes my speech is a little slurred (not because I'm drunk lol) but because when I have flare ups I get a little brain fog, and my tongue gets a little lazy lol
NigelDoes · 56-60, M
I feel like I have to try to sound like a radio DJ when I'm talking to my tablet. It's pretty comical. I'm gonna experiment and try using a thick Cuban accent, so if my next post makes zero sense, you'll know why.:-)

@NigelDoes: lol 😂
roomy fridge I guess.. at least he didn't get closed in
oh 😳 did he sit on it or was he climbing on it?
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@ZeroG: sit.
He sat his big bum on the edge of it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ There was enough room for like 2 gallons of milk. He sat right there with the door open.
😨

Sorry, it was me. I told him he should believe in himself.
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
Believing in himself has nothing to do with sitting on the refrigerator shelf lol @Mordimoux:
Mordi · 31-35, M
I mean he said he could do it. And I was like you should always believe in yourself. A few moments later he did it.

Kids do the damndest things don't they?

He wanted to be cool 😎 Glad he wasn't hurt!!

tristemuneca what possessed him to do this in the first place even at seven and a half he must have known it would not hold his weight but as you say apart from the cost of what happened at least he did not end up at hospital having glass removed
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@smiler2012: what possessed him was being a kid lmao. He doesn't think he's as heavy as he is, especially because he doesn't look overweight. He's tall and stalky and has wide shoulders.
You realize kids don't always have the best ideas?
He sat there on the edge of the shelf because he was putting water bottles in the refrigerator door trying to be helpful.
He never sits there.
Filling the refrigerator with water is his chore. Every morning he refills it with more bottles.
Last night we went to a party where he ran around the kids room playing with his little friends. He also had football practice this whole week so I think he was just tired but still trying to keep up with his responsibility.

KIDS!!!! 🙆
smiler2012 · 56-60
tristeemuneca I was not criticising your parenting skill there I was stating a point as I said how you discipline your children is your decision
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@smiler2012: interjecting with your opinion on what "should be hurting" is something irrelevant to the post. I didn't ask for discipline advice and I didn't even say how he was disciplined. You just assumed he wasn't.

Is he overweight?
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@MoreLove: he plays football.
That's the plan.
We have a pretty healthy diet for everyone in this house because I'm diabetic. His doctor doesn't think he needs any special diet. He'll lose those 5lbs playing.
SW-User
@Tristemuneca: Thats good.Is your diabetes genetic or caused by weight?
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@MoreLove: mine is genetic. I was pre diabetic and insulin resistant due to PCOS for 10+yrs. I kept it away with diet and exercise. I became diabetic recently. Due to another condition. I was on insulin for a year and then I was recently taken off of it.
smiler2012 · 56-60
tristemuneca 😡the only thing that should be hurting is his bottom but your his parent i am not
NigelDoes · 56-60, M
You're.
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@NigelDoes: thanks lol

@smiler2012: you're right. He is MY child. Why would you assume he hasn't been punished? 🙄
In any case I don't strike my children over everything they do. They get spanked when they really deserve it, it's not our first option. There are other ways to parent. Normally my kids are extremely well behaved and disciplined. Today he made a bad judgement call.
smiler2012 · 56-60
tristemuneca well if he had good intention and was trying to help you I suppose my comment was a little harsh
