As adult are you grateful for the punishments you got as a child?

Times have changed - almost beyond recognition - since I was your age, Erik. Corporal punishment, at school as much as at home, was the norm. I think we were more stoic and philosophical about punishments if we were caught misbehaving.

I never got hit so I'm grateful for my mother that she punished me reasonably.
But if you get hit with the belt or the cane, I don't think you will ever be grateful for it. It must hurt like hell.

I cannot remember ever being punished without deserving it and I know that the punishments helped me learn better how I was supposed to behave.
I am grateful for the wonderful childhood - including the punishments - my parents gave me.

No. they didn't help at all, rather I found them counterproductive to my sense of self and self-worth

No, although it really wasn't punishment when you get beat constantly and don't even know the reason. Maybe cuz they were psychopaths.
