Parents: do you listen to your kids?

Everytime I read about someone getting kidnapped, it triggers my mind and I go back to the time where a kidnapper attempted to come into my childhood home.

I had saw him drive past the house, enough times ti notice that he keeps driving by really slowly, looking at me, and only me . I told my parents, who of course dismissed it, saying " oh he's looking for a friend's house" or " oh he's maybe just elderly"

A few weeks past.

My parents left together one Saturday morning And left me and my siblings home ( they were around 16). As my parents were leaving, I saw the man drive by.

I went back to my room.

Probably 30 minutes later, I hear loud banging noises. I go to my sister's room and asked what they were doing. They were just laying there with the radio blasting. I turned it down so they could hear the banging. We ran to the door and the guy was kicking it in....

Never felt safe again in that house and I'm glad we moved, though about 2 years later.

I've had other things happen to me and I really think I should have went to therapy for it ..

Do you listen to your kids when they tell you something is wrong?

My parents always played down or dismissed anything I said like I was imagining it or over reacting. When I had a pedophile school teacher they didn’t believe that either. They said oh we phoned the school and they said he was fine but that I was naughty and would cause trouble. So by reporting it I was in trouble with the school and my parents. I never trusted them again after that.

Yes.That was something my wife and I were careful to do. Now that they have kids of their own, they listen to thier kids like we taught them. It is really important!
