At what age did you make your kid pack their own lunch instead of you doing it?

I was homeschooled, so it was never applicable to me (we'd just eat at home). Starting at age five, though, we'd take turns helping to cook meals.

I don't have kids. But, when I was a kid, my mother was not very hard imaginative. It was two pieces of bread with a piece of ham and a juice box. She worked nights and was barely awake when it was time to take us to school. I learned to make my own stuff pretty early. I was cooking dinner by age 9.

She did it herself in 10th grade, they’d started contracting the meals in the schools & she said they were nasty so she’d bring something from home.

@cherokeepatti school lunches are pretty expensive where I live, so I can't imagine if have been allowed to buy it more than once a week if I did go to public school. I know the few times I went for study group or soccer, the nachos were good lol

@AmmieBell I was a single mother so she got reduced lunches and since so few were eligible for reduced lunches at that school they told us that they would be free lunches. Even then she didn’t want to eat the food, the students would see mold on some of the items and my daughter already had health problems & was allergic to mold. She would have been stuck in the bathroom for awhile if she accidentally ate anything with it.
My mom always packed my lunch till about the 6th grade then I used to go home for hunch.

@MarmeeMarch my mom probably would have made me pack my own at around six or seven, but she'd have had to check it since I would have definitely packed nothing but fruit and treats 😂

They are not old enough to start school yet.

Sounds a littls like my family. I was cooking uo a storm on my own by age 8. Before that I had to have an older sibling around if I was frying anything.
