What was it like for you growing up?

TexChik · F
until I was 11 it was surreal. Hell on earth and a fight for survival. Frequent beatings and torture at the hands of my meth head father. We lived out in the middle of no where on a farm. The only clothes I had were clothes neighbors would leave for me. I had to fend for my self to eat. I had to stay out in the barn because in the house he would find me and start torturing me. When he tried to rape me at 11 my brain kicked in and told me to get out of there...I ran to our neighbors farm about 5 miles down the road and knocked on their door in the middle of the night. They took me in and saved me, ultimately adopting me. I was so lucky. They were angels

@latinbutterfly yes I was very fortunate

I had read a post about your journey before and it was such a blessing they took you in. @TexChik

@rjc36 They always left me notes out in the barn but I couldn't read...so I just tossed them. I ate what they had in the fridge, slept in the sleeping bag on the cot they had in the barn under the glow of the electric heater and I took clothes that I needed. I thought I was such a good sneak thief. Hahahaha
Tough. There was a lot of work and my Dad was pretty strict. I had good parents and was loved, though.
being the youngest I was Daddy and Grandpa's little girl. my fondest memories are sitting on eithers laps watching tv feeling safe and loved. my older brother was my protector. coming from an Italian family, that was everything growing up. miss that so much

Well, I grew in violent gang territory in Chicago. My family didn't have that much money, but we weren't dirt poor. Parents were strict and showed my siblings and I tough love from time to time, but only because they wanted us to be safe.
Playing outside, smiles, laughs, fun with friends, following fads, crushes on boys, boyfriends, learning who to trust and not trust, scared when fights broke out at home, lots of tears, confusing.

It was a mixture of good times and had lessons. Sometimes being alone even around my family and other times knowing I was loves and cared for. Overall it was not to bad.

It was fun and adventurous.and I had a lot of freedom. Most importantly it was stable because my parents are awesome.
Horrible, but with just enough good stuffs sprinkled in to remind me of how good things could actually be.

Beatings occasionally, dad broke my nose one evening when I was 12. Then he married this hypocrite bitch. So I saved money, and moved the fuck out. Stepmom came by my apartment asking to borrow money, I told her if she came back again, it'll be the last thing she does.

One big learning experience
DragonSlayerr · 26-30, F
Pretty rough but I turned out okay!
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Lived on a farm in the woods. No friends. Just books and work. Kind of like now but now I'm in the city. Family is all gone.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@DarkHeaven chickens, sheep, and cows.
@Tastyfrzz My Dad was a cattle rancher so we had a lot of cattle. Some chickens and a couple pigs for personal slaughter but no sheep.
@Tastyfrzz And several horses for riding.

Way too secretive

I grew up in a weirdly religious family. Holidays well hellish. Older family members would visit. The dynamic between the older siblings and my parents was screwed up. There were fights ..
DamnFeelz · 36-40, F
Like a crayola variety pack only instead of crayons it was shades of dysfunction and trauma 😂🤷🏻‍♀️😅

Miserable. Growth is fulfilling though.
caccoon · 36-40
It just gets more and more confusing every day.
@caccoon I’m sorry. 🖤🤗
caccoon · 36-40
@DarkHeaven 🤗💙💙💙💙💙 Being confused is not too bad! I just didn't feel a transition. It's a never ending thing.
@caccoon *gives you a big hug* 🤗

At the time it was what I thought was normal, I assumed everyone had lives the same, as some of my mates did. now I realise it was pretty bad
