Teaching manners.
And i do nit talk about punishments for the lack of manners. I mean you must spend time to teach that and be a good exemple. I know to many kids who not know the simplest table manners.
Actually parenting their children!!! Far too many are raising themselves these days...

@HootyTheNightOwl I totally agree. There are many ways to parent, but the one common part of all of those ways are the parents actually being there to do it.

I’ve sat here for five minutes and I really can’t come up with anything.

Those complaining about disciple clearly don’t have kids. I’ve coached nearly 100 kids before my kid stopped playing sports. I have to eat lunch with tons of high school kids during the school year (their school is near my work and they go out).

These kids are doing just fine. There are always a few screw-offs but there were when I was younger too.

Not everybody can live on a farm like you did. Or get beaten by their parent like you did.

They are doing just fine.

Enforcing some sort of discipline

@Quizzical mm what way of discipline do you aprove?
Jenni7 · 26-30, F
There is, but you can tell some of these younger parents don’t like to hit or discipline their kids. Or I even see grandparents let the kids do what they want because they like to spoil them @SW-User

@SW-User Some sort of punishment or chastisement, whether that be through grounding, taking away what they enjoy, or if necessary, physical punishment. It worked for hundreds of years, but these days we are too soft on misbehaving kids, excusing their behaviour and inventing medical terms like ADHD, when really, they are just plain naughty.

Stayed with their kids instead of just working and working.

@SW-User yea, would be nice, but most people have to work to live
SW-User
@iamnikki but the consequences of lonely kids aren't good either.

Parents used to send their children to Sunday School, or the equivalent. I know I learned most of my own morality from sweet faced nuns. People don't do that anymore because they don't believe in anything but themselves, and they are obviously flunking that...😢
Just spend quality time each day without rushing around all over the place.
On Saturday nights we had a nice meal and then when our shows came on we made popcorn and sat around and watched our favourite shows. Sunday’s we went to church, lunch, after, and drives to the park or lake. @4meAndyou

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 That sounds nice. You got to get out of the car at nice places.
Friday, Saturday, and Sundays were family time. We also went to basketball games on Saturday nights. I remember my dad took us sledding in the wintertime. It was so much fun. @4meAndyou

I think it’s still important to teach self reliance. Of course children should feel comfortable to go to others for help & to learn. I think a lot of confidence grows though from accomplishing or overcoming things using tools at their disposable. But I think some independence has been lost for many & I’m curious how that may turn out long term.
