You are not a bad mom for grounding your son. I have grounded our two before. I would just make sure he uses that time to recover his grades.

Mine are both adults entering the home stretches for their bachelor’s degrees. My role is strictly that of friend and advisor at this stage. For the most part, I just stay out of the way and let them solve their own problems, and if I find out about it, they usually tell me after they’ve come up with the solution.

I don't have kids, but my close friend does and she fights with her 12 year old daughter about a phone: the daughter wants her own cell phone but she says her daughter is way too immature for one.
