What would cause the court to grant a father full custody of his son?

He used to only see his son on the weekends.the child stayed with the mother full time but the courts gave the father full custody.

This is a very complex subject & each case is different, but the court would look at the child's relationship with mother, father & other factors such as mental health issues & drug use. It is possible for a father to be granted full custody rights (otherwise known as sole custody), however the court is likely to encourage an ongoing relationship between the child(ren)& mother, as the law considers that this is in the best interests of the child(ren).

@BalmyNites So the mother would have to be pretty messed up for the father to be granted full custody?

She would have to f up royally.

I mean the court will typically give the children to the mother unless she has done something proven illegal or demonstrably horrible. @Angeliclove

Well... hard to say without knowing details. But the most likely thing would be the child being in a dangerous or harmful environment.

@Sharon That's kind of what I was thinking... 🤔

@Quizzical It would have to be exceptionally dangerous to override the general bias though.
