Honestly, it probably depends, but in my case, neither. My mother came to respect me as an adult early on, and my husband wouldn’t have allowed my mother in law to do so. After his death, what remained in common was our love for him, so we stayed in touch until she passed away.

Well I couldn’t understand my mother in law when she was alive but I’m too old to be bossed around.

No mother in law, and my mom knows bossing me around doesn't work. She does try guilt trips though
