Did you have a favorite relative, e.g. Aunt, Cousin as a young child & then learn something horrifying about him or her as an adult?

Your favorite Uncle is a pedophile. Your favorite cousin stole from your parents. Your Grandfather abused your Dad.

I have a very charismatic Uncle who became wealthy after beginning his own business and I looked up to him, even wanted to emulate his lifestyle. I later learned he did this--started a business-- because he was a felon as a result of molesting his ex-wife's underage daughter and therefore had difficulty obtaining employment!

My grandmother let my father quit school in the fourth grade after a nun punished him for speaking out during Benediction and prayers. He went to public school through the third grade and then she transferred him to St. Pascal's School, just down the block. He lasted half a year. I never knew he didn't finish school until I was in high school myself. (Mom told me.)

This is a little different. I loved my grandfather, my father (his son) I hardly ever saw and as an adult found him to be a nasty SOB. He tried to convince me that my grandfather was evil, but could never explain how. I still think my grandfather was amazing.
I felt the same way about my maternal grandmother in spite of what my parents were convinced of.@curiosi

Not really finding out anything bad but my dad moved to a different country and didn't keep in contact for 13 years.
Wow. That's quite a hiatus.@Zelllambert

Yup, I don't even recognise him or share much in common anymore.

No. They are/were pretty consistent in their general attitudes and moral fiber or lack of, depending on each one.
