What is your parenting style?

I don’t have kids, but when/if I do I would want to be more of a friend-like parent. Have a few rules and chores of course, but overall just let kids be kids.

Strict...
Her screen time is only at weekends!
Bed at 8.00pm
9 at a push weekends..
She doesn't even chance trying to butter me up for anything because she's not going to get it!
She never interrupts while I'm on the phone..
I'm working on the eating bit though!
But she can talk and share anything she wants with me and she is loved terribly!

Well I agree with screen time rules, but not as strict. I would only want them to watch TV or use the phone after homework and chores are done. No phones or computers in their bedrooms.
As for bed time, 9:30pm max if they’re in elementary school. 10:30pm seems reasonable for middle school. But by highschool they can take responsibility for their own sleep schedules
Everything else after that seems a bit too strict for me, especially the eating. Putting rules on a kid’s eating habits just seems mean. @Dusty101
That's me. My kids know though that if they break the rules there will consequences. Discipline isn't something that me or my husband enjoy trying to decide on, but if they mess up they have to learn.

Parent first, kids need structure, discipline and boundaries to feel safe and secure.

Well, you don’t want TOO much of that because the kids feel suffocated and unfree. I’m watching the Wife Swap marathon and it appears that the parents who enforce too much structure and all that have very unhappy kids that can’t express themselves. @LyricalOne

@DaughterOfTheDust It’s about finding a balance. Being a friend first does the child no favors.

Just like my family. Makes for happy kids, and parents.
It's all about unconditional love, understanding, and trust. 🤗
