How do you feel about mothers who breastfeed in public?

I asked this same question about 2 years ago on here and the comment section was a mess and all hell broke loose so I kinda want to compare the responses from this to the ones I got in 2016.
The one thing I didn't explain well last time I posted was that I'm not talking about women just pulling out their breasts and having the whole thing showing right in front of everyone where you can literally see the baby feeding. I'm more so just talking about breastfeeding in general since I've seen women use a cover where you could not see a damn thing and yet people still were nasty about it and shaming them for it or telling them to do that in the bathroom.

I don't have a problem with a woman breast feeding in any fashion in public. She can pull her breast out and feed her baby right there. She can cover up. She can pump milk. Speaking for myself, if I'm looking I'm not perving. I think it's freaking awesome and cool. Not a sexual or "dirty" thing about it. We missed a left turn somewhere to come to the conclusion that a breast isn't PRIMARILY to feed babies.

As for sending a woman to the bathroom to feed. Srsly. What sort of message is that about motherhood. Feed your child in a metal stall around sounds of excretion and smells of shit and piss. Yea. THAT is normal.

It's funny. The entirety of human evolution and we don't have a problem. Thousands of years of human civilization and we don'to have a problem. The vast majority of the world currently has no problem. And we've gone insane over this.

Well said

A mother has a right to feed her hungry child however, whenever and wherever she likes.

@ProdigalSummer ditto, ditto, ditto!!

@ProdigalSummer Exactly.
I'm not going to expect anyone to eat in a bathroom, much less a baby.
Breasts are not this inherently naughty or sexual thing that should be covered at all costs (except when it is pleasing to us, hypocrites).
It harms no one. In fact it is incredibly beneficial to the baby. And it's been around since the dawn of humanity.
There's nothing uncivilized or improper about breast feeding.
People can get over their precious sensibilities and grow up.

When I was nursing I never felt comfortable enough to do it in public or even in the same room as extended family, even with the cover. And if you’re not relaxed it is impossible to feed. But I fully support women breastfeeding in public and NOT in a public bathroom because it is hideously gross to have to do that.

@Fallflower I agree with this so much. If you're not comfortable enough to do it then that's fine. I would be the same way, but women who are comfortable enough to feed in public shouldn't be told that they need to do it in a bathroom.

I guess my thoughts are in a nutshell, this: It is a proven fact that breast milk from the mother is the single most healthy thing (both physically and emotionally) for a child to eat. If it makes you uncomfortable to watch it, then don't, and really, who asked you anyway?

First, I think it’s ridiculous that anyone has a problem with it. Many of those same people see no issue with a woman who shows off a ton of cleavage. It is the most natural thing in the world. If you think a baby should eat their lunch in the bathroom I’d like to see the person requesting, eat their burger on the toilet!! It’s nasty.

Second, just on your question’s coat tails, I’m curious if anyone has ever actually seen a woman just completely pull out her boob, stripper style and started feeding. Everytime I see a woman nurse they appear to be modest and I never actually see boob, maybe just the upper area but I’ve seen more with some shirts.
@dreamsicle oh, I have some hippie friends who’ll pull down a tank top and whip the whole thing out. It’s commonly done and accepted in our circle of friends, so no one thinks anything of it.
NaturallyPeculiar · 26-30, F
@dreamsicle That's why I mentioned it, because last time people were like "I don't want to see women pull out their boob and attach a baby to it". I will say I've seen it happen only once but even then I just looked away and minded my own business but besides that usually they cover it or you can only see the babies head.

@NaturallyPeculiar @ProdigalSummer Lol, I’ve never seen that but maybe I’m thinking of my own nursing days where I draped a blanket over my shoulder till baby was latched on. My answer remains the same and I’ve had a conversation with my sons for this very reason! Even my youngest understood how gross it would be to expect a baby to nurse in a bathroom.

@dreamsicle 😂I come back after having to go somewhere and see this. I'm dying. How come no one ever told me Muslims and breastfeeding where practically the same thing?
Lol thanks for posting interesting and relevant comments. It's good to see that after 2 years there are more people who aren't all, "omg ban all the bewbs and make your baby eat in a place you would never eat."
dreamsicle · 46-50, F
@NaturallyPeculiar I know, I actually laughed out loud at this one! Have to show my Muslim friends, while they breastfeed and plot to take over the world.

Women shouldn't have to have a shield. It's natural get over it people.

@PixieCutLover Do you eat in public bathrooms? Because you just compared eating with taking a shit...
dreamsicle · 46-50, F
@PixieCutLover They’re not at all the same thing though both are natural, like breathing. You breathe and cough and yawn in public. what is it exactly that offends you about a mother feeding her child?

I couldn't care less one way or the other

The traditional women where I live use their memenees as weapons when they get into drunken fights. So whipping them out to feed their babies isn't so bad.

I think they should have some dignity and as least cover up
