I’ve noticed that a lot of children are underdressed

Today there was a musical concert at my daughter’s school, the school day was delayed because of the snow so there was basically no class. It’s freezing out today with some light snow, there was no school bus for the concert so we had to walk. I dressed myself and my daughters very warmly for this walk, we wore our warmest snow boots, thick snow pants, and a crazy amount of layers. Seriously, we wore north face fleece jackets, with a puffy jacket over that, and our long heavy winter coats over top. Naturally we had mittens, scarves, hats, and our hoods on. When we got to the school I noticed a lot of kids didn’t have proper winter gear on, most of them had some kind of coat on but that was it. There’s no way these kids weren’t freezing.

meanwhile, folks here in Texas wear Uggs and jackets in 70 degree weather😁

@iamnikki I've seen a young teen wearing shorts, Uggs and long stripey socks in August, showing them boots off. It was dang hot that day too.

@cherokeepatti Yep, that's how they do it lol

I used to be a greeter at Walmart and people would bring their kids in without coats on, one man was wearing a jacket and his baby had nothing...he could have wrapped the jacket around the baby if he didn't have one.

@cherokeepatti I have to admit I haven’t seen that. When we go shopping we wear our usual winter clothes. Unless we’re going to be inside for a while I usually just keep all my winter clothes on.

@SingleMother I first saw it when I'd go to a flea market to sell used things...I'd get there early morning to unload and on the colder days I'd see some with a blanket, they were Mexicans. But I've seen some Americans do that too. I guess if you don't have a coat and want to be warm till you get one that's what you can do to stay warm, the way Natives here used to do was stay warm with blankets...you see some paintings like that.

@cherokeepatti that makes sense, sad that not everyone can afford winter clothing

Isn't that typical of kids...esp teens, to underdress? You guys seem seriously OVER dressed frankly

@SingleMother Then you will always be cold. Never become acclimated to the cold. I am rarely cold. I see people put coats on just because of the month. Oh well, whatever makes you comfy
SingleMother · 46-50, F
@Fernie I’m never cold because I always bundle up lol and I’m not saying I would wear my winter coat just because it’s that month, it’s usually cold enough during those months for me to have to.

@SingleMother I wish it was as easy to get cool on a hot day as it is to get warm on a cold day

U sounded a bit over dress. We had to wear uniforms even in the snow. Wore tights under my skirt and a jacket is all I wore

@smileylovesgaming
I’ve always considered it better to be overdressed than underdressed. It sounds like you were pretty underdressed.
