Any Single Mum's with young boy's with ADHD?

My 9 year old boy has recently been diagnosed with ADHD.
My ex is not interested in meds..he believes that Our Son needs to exercise more..and add more activities out of school.
My heart breaks for my boy..He has learning issues and performance is low. This has affected his self confidence and does not want to go to school...
I could go on and on..
I feel like shit most of the time because he is struggling.
We have an appointment with a Behavior Specialists in a few weeks.
Hopefully she can set me in the right direction.

your husband is right, he needs exercise. All that ADHD meds do is release dopamine

It's amphetamine basically
Has been shown to help though
I’m not a single mother, but my son is ADHD and medicine will help him with school. It will help him to focus. Still get him outside. He does need that...your ex is right, but for school and learning time put him on medicine.

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 Thank you for your reply. Did he experience any side affects?
Just not hungry at all. Son would get quite angry when he was not on his medicine and hungry or tired. But on the medicine he is able to focus. I know your ex doesn’t want the meds for him, because he is young, but school is so important and this is the time to get him focused. I find that his diagnosis has come quite late as my son was diagnosed at age 6. He just could not sit still in the classroom and he was like a motor that could not slow down. He is a runner too so he is very active. Maybe your ex can get him involved in just being outside and running and playing. My son is so good at running that he ran 5km in 23 minutes. He’s amazing!! Get him away from electronics for long periods as it just makes things worse...get him medicated for school...get him a tutor where he can do one on one things and start learning and achieving...and get him outside and active. Any help I can give let me know. All children are different so see the specialist as well as a pediatrician. @wiltingflower

I believe the meds can help but exercise is good too, will help with the ADHD and also his confidence
The behavioural specialist will help

exercise will work wonders. please do that. Medicine is okay but exercise is an all natural way to burn off that energy

I've worked with dozens of kids with ADD over the years. For some the medication works in a way it helps them focus and concentrate ...kind of slows them down a little. For others the medication seems to affect them too much and they seem unfocused in other ways! For many, keeping them busy and finding outlets for their energies no doubt helps but its also worth noting that an ADHD child may also have other issues that the ADD can mask.
Good luck to you and your boy. Xx

I am a single father with a son who has adhd, he is only 3 but I can see the challenges that lie ahead, the medications scare me

I heard on a news show that ADHD may be caused when women take pain meds while they are pregnant. Too much ibuprofen, etc

@Mk8155 Misinformation...

Fake news I guess. It's what I heard
SW-User
@Mk8155 Unhelpful news more so maybe

Medication is worth a trial -the results speak for themselves - either they'll help or not
