I Dont Like Being Chained Down

I feel chained down by Facebook. Seriously.

It's been dead a long time, but the only reason I've been keeping a profile there is because I have 2 or 3 friends I'd lose touch with if I deleted my profile, because the only way they communicate with me is through fb mesenger.

Otherwise I'd delete so fast. Most of my "friends" list is comprised of people who honestly couldn't give less of a damn about me. They don't ask me how I am, I don't ask how they are, etc. In fact I'm 99% sure they've unfollowed my posts...so why bother staying in contact right? So I went through and deleted about 75% of my friends list.

It took about 2 weeks before any of them noticed. One shot me another friend request but didn't ask me why she was unfriended. Another messaged me, obviously hurt, asking why he'd been unfriended. How do I tell them it's because I feel like a "friendship" that is maintained only through Facebook is BULLSHIT????

Years ago I told my best FB friends I was leaving, asked for their email addresses and closed the account. I hear stories at work from people about all the FB drama and am *so* glad that I don't waste a second there.

If it's only 2 or 3 friends, why not leave? They can communicate with you other ways if they want to.

@joe438 yeah I might ask them to do the email thing. But they seem to prefer real time messaging, so idk.

@DearAmbellina2113 There are other systems for that. Skype works really well. I've also used Google Hangouts and some others. Frankly I prefer email. If you stay in your mail program and just mail back and forth it's just about realtime.

FB is bullshit full stop. Why stay to make that Zuckerberg character any richer?
