Ode to Joy by Beethoven. When I was on a leadership course with the reserves we had a graduation parade in blistering heat and brilliant sunshine. The Lt Governor was supposed to take the march past but he went to the officers mess and got drunk first. He was an hour and half late. Guys were passing out from the heat, their rifles skittering across the parade square. I was getting close when the band began to play Ode to Joy. I held on and was one of half the squadron that was able to complete the march past
I've never been able to pick just one, but this one is timeless, and I find this version pretty moving.

"Black Sabbath", cause it's so creepy and heavy; "Heaven and Hell" because it's AMAZING and makes so much sense; or "For Whom the Bell Tolls", because it's just so damn awesome!!

I don’t know why I like it so much really, it makes me happy, and I can’t help but sing along every time I hear it being played.
It just feels like my kind of melancholy energy...

Several contenders, all appealing to different parts of me. However, this one I think is the most suitable one for posting here.

Firstly I just enjoy it from a pure musical perspective; love the sound, Drew's raspy voice, the mix of instrumentation both common and less common. Just hits all the right notes for me.

Another reason is that it is one of those songs I could see being sung around a bonfire, with everyone pitching in no matter how their singing voice sounds. There's something just great about the ragtag feel of it.

It is also the first song I heard after reading the news that Drew and Joe among others had been killed. No, never met them, but they have been part of creating things that have influenced me greatly and opened my eyes to a part of me that I wasn't aware of. After their death I found a video someone had taken; a mural to honor them was created in an alley, with a mini-concert of music they had made - including this song - and people dancing to it. They may be gone, but what they made lives on.
