I’m actually disappointed that it took that movie to discover her, though. She and other artists should have been part of the curriculum in history class when learning about the Civil Rights movement. @LovesJazz2

@SW-User Sadly, they never taught us about the Civil Rights movement at my school.

We just got the standard timeline view of it. My history classes in public school never delved into the cultural side of history. I’m thankful that several of my college courses did, because that’s when I truly began to understand the human side of history. Timelines and events are critical to understand, but they’re antiseptic without also exploring the human impacts. @LovesJazz2
