Doubtful considering the time ( the 80's ) and the location ( Heartland/Midwest)
Most likely Diane got pregnant with Jack's twins and while she was toiling trying to keep the family together on nothing but diet pills, menthol 100's, and Valium.Jack was off pulling tail and drowning in his alcoholism in some seedy truckstop dive bar. Coming home to beat the crap out of Diane because there is no money left to pay the bill's and Jack's Kraft Mac and Cheese was cold. Putting her down more because she's making him make the children cry with her constant mouthing off. Eventually they get a divorce and Diane ends up having her kids taken away because of her new meth addiction and ends up hooking on the streets for her next hit.
