The Cars

Why aren't "The Cars" in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet???

Who has a hard-on for keeping them out???

Why???

they are inducted this year. The Hall of Fame is all about money.

Thank you very much!!!

I have been ranting for the past several years about why they weren't inducted yet - particularly last year. I had not heard about this year, and the online rant just popped out an hour ago.

Interestingly, I had never really listened to "The Cars" when their albums were released. I was heavily into Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Arlo Guthrie, ...

Then about 15 to 19 years ago - years get harder to remember as your number of them get larger - my wife and I went to the casino in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan (about 95 miles north of our home) to see CRR (Credence Clearwater REVISITED) in concert.

It was "revisited" because John Fogarty would let them use the original name.

Anyway, two or three members of the band were replacements for original members. The bass guitarist was incredible. He would play the most strident, most intricate, most incredible riffs and make it look like it was as simple as breathing.

I checked out who he was, and discovered his name was Elliot Easton, and that he had attended Julliard and had played with "The Cars".

I told my wife that I knew the name of "The Cars", but that I didn't know any of their songs. How wrong I turned out to be!

We bought their "Best of" album, and of the 20 songs on it, I was astonished to find that I knew the melodies - and many lyrics - to 19 of them. Now that I think about it, for several years in the late Seventies and early Eighties, they were always on the radio. And, I became a mover/truck driver in 1989 and always had the radio on driving coast to coast. Of course, from midnight to 4:00 AM, the radio was tuned to "Coast to Coast With Art Bell!"

Anyway, I discovered that I was a Cars fan about 15 years after they broke up. We play the best of thing about every other week, and we bought a new album released by Starbucks about a year or two ago.

So, I am very glad to hear they are in the Hall of Fame. They have deserved to be for many years. They began playing in 1976, so with the 25 year wait from first performances, they have been eligible since 2001. So they finally got in - just 17 years late.

Thanks for letting me know.
