The news is out: Slayer are breaking up :(

While I more than understand them calling it quits after 37 years of heavy screaming, distorted guitars, touring and writing albums, it's certainly going to be sad not having my favorite band around anymore. This is a loss not only for the world of metal, but for the world of music.

I mean, the death of Jeff Hanneman in 2013 certainly put a damper on things, but them getting rid of Lombardo shortly thereafter was horrible decision-making on top of it all and based on what Dave said about the situation that led to him being fired, it certainly sounds like Tom and Kerry are pretty greedy and self-centered...

(Video for those of you who want that story: [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPHjNG1m22I] )

But beyond that, one of the other majorly disappointing things is that they are letting the last album they put out be the final cut of their discography. "Repentless" had some cool tunes on it and overall, it was a great effort to the continue the band without Hanneman, but it just wasn't quite an album fit for closing out a 37-year musical career with.

Yes it is sad news but I have thought for a long time the quality of their albums has really dropped over the last 10 years. Live though they have always kicked ass.

@DragonRyder I will admit that I thought their "Christ Illusion" album from 2006 was probably their best work since "Divine Intervention".

I felt that "God Hates Us All" and "World Painted Blood" were both disappointing though.

@SubZeroSlays808 I agree. Christ Illusion is the most recent Slayer album that I still listen to regularly.

@coolboy86 Yeah, it really does. Again, I understand why they're doing it, I just wish the time hadn't come so soon.
