John Lee Hooker. Hands down. He was very personable. 1984 Chicago bluesfest I talked and listened to him for an hour before he went on stage. Just a normal guy.
Buddy Guy also great. Also down to earth. Seen him a few times.
Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf.
My personal go to top 4.
Also check out Fruitland Jackson. He's more old time blues in a new blues voice. Very good.
If you ever get down to Chicago and want to hear good blues Buddy Guy's legends. Great venue.

@Snyderp69 Thanks for responding and giving me some insight about your choices. I like Muddy Waters. If I'm ever fortunate enough to get to Chicago I'll have to check out Buddy Guy's Legends.

@Atrevido1 I'll have to check him out online thanks for letting me know and posting your thoughts.
Bessie Smith. Billie Holiday, "Mississippi" Fred McDowall, Robert Jordan
@Elandra77 It's really hard to pick just one. Etta James and Nina Simome were quite amazing as well. Thanks for answering, great choices as well.
@sensualbeauty1 I see them more as "torch" singers. Still blues- but a different kind than what traditional blues are. But they did lap over a lot. At times Billie was as well. Lady Day sure could sing.
@Elandra77 There is nothing more wonderful than the sound of a sweet sultry voice. Yes I've heard a little of her music, fantastic voice.
Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Otis Rush, and Charles Bradley
@PhaedraIsMyName So many good ones, great choices. Thanks so much for responding appreciated.
@sensualbeauty1 so many varieties of the blues choose from too! I love swamp blues too!
@PhaedraIsMyName It's very true far too many. .It's so nice to get some of the vinyl records out from my oldest sibling's collection and listen.

I love Etta James and of course Stevie Ray Vaughn. And lets not forget the King, BB.

@sensualbeauty1 the most forgotten of 20th century influences.... her biography Shout Sister Shout is terrific reading.
